Hey everyone, im the Great and Powerful Paz! (not to be mistaken for Oz, which is overrated!) LOL Anyways, does anyone know how I can obtain crosshairs for the game, all this time I have been playing without them, and I was wondering how to I get them, I know there used to be a selection like small medium large, lt blue, green, red, or something to that effect, however in my crosshair box, is blacked out and you can not select anything, any suggestions? | |

I've used Sumos crosshair pak for years. No doubt there are better ones out there, I've just been using them for so long I can't get used to any other ones. | |

C:/Program Files/Steam/SteamApps/common/Half-Life/tfc/sprites
that's where the directory is. i think if you delete that folder, when u connect to the server it will re-download the necessary files.
you can also install your own into the same folder by downloading some elsewhere on the internet.

crosshair 1

Ok, so I lost my cross hair years ago and had been playing without them until I read this; so I tried it and it worked for me BUT it affected my mouse control for engi, spy where I can't use my mouse when you go into the sub menu to build or disguise. I have gone back into console to re-affirm mouse two for special feature but still no good. Any ideas and btw thanks for the cross hair fix.

If you don't have individual class configs, you might want to look into getting some. I can write you some basic ones if you like and then you can edit them as you like to fit. | |

hud_capturemouse is probably set to 0. Setting it to 1 should probably get it working again. | |

TFC switched to SteamPipe last year, so the first folder that TFC will check for your crosshair stuff is tfc_addon/sprites. If there's nothing there, it'll check tfc/sprites, then valve_hd/sprites (if you haven't disabled the Blue Shift HD models/sprites/sounds, which were never intended for TFC), and finally valve/sprites.
Delete crosshairs.spr in the tfc_addon/sprites folder (or from all of the folders I just mentioned, if you want to be extra-sure), as well as all of the tf_weapon_*.txt files (where * is the name of any/every TFC weapon; these files contain the info that determines which crosshair is used, and there should be a dozen or so). Then open up your Steam library, right click on TFC, -> Properties -> Local Files -> Verify Integrity of Game Cache. It'll recheck all your files and redownload/replace anything that you're missing, and I think it might replace anything that doesn't match default file specs as well. So, you'd want to back up your config.cfg file and any other file which has been customized. That should probably do it... Make sure one last time that you have crosshair set to 1.
Since all of Valve's games transitioned to SteamPipe, all custom content should go in your tfc_addon folder (matching the hierarchy of the original TFC folder). If you ever download custom content (or create custom configs or anything), stick it in the right addon folder and it'll never get overwritten by Steam.
If none of that solves your problem, I'm probably out of ideas. =p | |
