Anyone know why I get huge lag spikes when someone is talking on voice chat in game? Because of this, I normally have to disable voice chat all together.

Any ideas?

Never have encountered that problem. Maybe check the steam forums or a google search.
One thing I always tell ppl who suddenly have problems or issues is to reset or restart their router and make sure all their machines drivers are up todate.

I have a similar problem. Anytime someone touches the flag or the flag returns you get a voice notification 'the enemy has captured the flag' or 'your team has the enemy flag' etc... Anytime I hear that I lag or spike a little. It's like a freeze for a second and its back to normal.

It's quite annoying cause I could be in a battle with a medic defending the flag and that lag causes me to die or something.

Is there any way to fix this? Or is there a way to disable that voice that speaks anytime a flag is touched or returned?

That's local on your end... the packet tells your client flag=taken, your client does the speech on it.

Dafuq you playing on, a Win'98 Laptop?

Sounds like a sound card issue -- be it the driver or the physical card itself.

This happens to me sometimes with my USB mic, usually the first time that I use voice chat in a game.

You could try this in console:
_snd_mixahead "0.2"
If it doesn't help, or makes it laggy, then change it back to the default:
_snd_mixahead "0.1"
Also, you might want to check for an IRQ conflict, if you're using Windows.
It isn't always the problem, but it never helps if you do have one.

To do that, go to Control Panel > System > Device Manager. In that window, click on the "View" menu, and select "Resources By Type".

Then, scroll down towards the bottom of the list and find your sound card (and external mic/cam, if you use one).

In my case, it's:
(PCI) 0x00000010 (16) M-Audio Delta Audiophile
------------------------^^---pay attention to this number

In that list, if any other devices share that same IRQ number [(16) in my case], then it can certainly cause your problem to occur.

If you see that something else is sharing an IRQ with your sound OR video card, then you can try swapping devices to different USB ports to see if that clears it up, or, right-clicking on the conflicting device and disabling it.

If you decide to disable something, just make sure that the device which you are going to disable is absolutely not needed! 1 or 2 USB ports are sometimes OK to disable, as long as they aren't all being used on your computer at once -- you might have to swap your mouse/webcam to a different port if you disable any USB ports.

Things such as, "PCI Express Root Port xx", or "Realtek PCI GBE ..", "SMBus Controller", or anything with "SATA" in it, almost certainly should *not* be disabled. If it's one of those things sharing the IRQ, perhaps you should look for a BIOS update for your motherboard, or try swapping PCI cards around to different slots, in order to resolve it.
Sometimes they just can't be resolved easily, especially on cheapo motherboards.

Of course if you're on a Mac, none of this shit will apply, you're on your own, and I'm sorry I wasted your time. :)
