No (50%)

Poll has ended (it ran for 7 days). 12 total votes.
Curious what you guys think. I've been thinking about dropping my clan tag because it hasn't been an active clan in well over 10 years. In the early days of TFC we used to be -[AkB]- (ass kicking bastards) then switched to -[IBSC]- (Illegitimate Businessman's Social Club - a Simpsons reference) in 2001 or so. But, quite frankly, I find it pointless now. We we never a real competitive clan for the most part, but our claim to fame was making some custom maps that are still used to this day - Minigolf, etc. There's a Easter Egg in Minigolf2 that has embarrassing pictures of all of us 15 years ago. Anyways, it's stupid to keep the clan tag now. I don't even think any of them play TFC anymore.

I know I'm not the only one that keeps their old clan tag in their name... Do you guys think it's stupid having a clan tag that hasn't been active in years?

Its the way you worded the question. "Necessary". Of course they are not necessary, but I think you should keep it as a reminder of good times gone by. Like mentioning your fraternity or other club/college you were proud of in your past. Just my Opinion.

Yeah, it's for you (and other people still wearing their tags) more than anyone else. To remind yourself of the special friends you made and your glory days in the game. No reason to abandon that if you don't want to. Besides, I've always associated your username with the tag, haha.

I think about wearing my TFC tags from time to time. Though I'd probably have to stick with an actual ingame name first these days... I played and loved The Battle Grounds (a third-party GoldSrc mod) about as much (or even more) than TFC, and made the closest e-friends I've ever known in that game, and I'd never consider dropping my clan tag in that game well over a decade later.

You're allowed to use the [d2f] tag. Anyone over 50 hours is allowed.

I haven't worn my RBK(ReBornKillers) tag in a long time. My -AE- tag is for Fortress Forever only. Even that clan isn't active anymore. In fact, I don't know of ANY active clans anymore. It's a shame, but time passes and we move on.

I'll stick to using [d2f], as it's the brotherhood here that keeps me coming back.

Illusion, you do what makes YOU happy.

I don't care what it really stands for...IBSC will always be "irritable bowel syndrome clan" to me.:)

Wally, as guy who always plays HWG...how about using the -[BBBD]- tag? (Big Boned Basement dweller).

I was in +SUF back in my day. Actually built a desktop just to get my lag down and payed half the internet bill to get better speeds. Soup Nazi always thought I was a dildo but im sorta funny sometimes so he let my shit slide.

These days I play off a laptop with a Bluetooth mouse and 2.4g wireless.

Those days were fun but Im not in contact with anyone anymore and sniper only maps almost never show up.

Agree with everyone else. Do what makes you happy.

My clan died years ago and did not feel the need to keep it once it fizzled away. Totally up to you man.

It's not necessary, but it's not a big deal if you want to keep it.

I had a clan in XWing Vs Tie Fighter that we started in 98, and we maintained it through other games (BF2142, CoD4, SWG, LOTRO, SW:TOR). We're not active, per se, but we have a group on FB and we're kind of waiting for something good to come out to bring it back.

I play various CoD games and BF1 on the XBox, and there's a shitload of clan designations out there, but no idea if they're active clans, or just letters they throw in. For instance, I just put 'Sith' in the clan tag box. It's not my clan, but I don't like blank spaces either.

I'd just do what you want, even if it's not active. Keeps the memory alive. Kind of like the Straight Jacket Brigade...

...of course now, when I see SJW (social justice warrior) is read it as Straight Jacket Warrior and that just feels right when you look at them that way.

That is epic, man!

The *SJB pops up once in a while.... but it's usually just me on one of my insane "suicide break the defense" runs. I still have the binds in my configs.

I think clan tags are a badge of honor that bring back old memories from us old folks. I played with my boys in Hard Core Alliance, back in the day. The boys were very good ([HCA]DrunkenMime and [HCA]Charlie) and they let me tag along when they needed another player. Before that, we had a little clan called BAN, short for Bangor because we all lived in North Bangor,NY. Even had the whole clan operate from my house, one day.

Wear your tag or switch off with the D2F tag. Some of us know and recognize it and what it meant.

Speaking of "friend" clans... me and two good friends of mine(we're still friends, and have been for well over 20 years) all used to play together back in the WON days.

We decided to make a clan tag..... -[A/N]-... Amish Niggaz. We were just starting to get decent at the game and had shaken off the "noobie/llama" designation.

We used a lot of taunts back then, mostly to just throw the other team off their game. It worked a lot more than you might think.

I ended up buying the game for one of them during a sale last year, but he'll only play if he knows I'm on. He hasn't played in years, so he's an easy kill these days. But, he was always good with communications.... so that's a plus.

We would do a three-way voice call, on speaker phones(via landlines, if you can imagine it!) because the game didn't have voice-chat yet.

Ahhhhh, the memories.

A clan tag is a bit like wearing shoulder pads in 2017. It just proves you're old.
