Is Drippys2fort now forcing consistency for custom models all of a sudden?
I cant join since I have downloaded skins and other models to replace guns etc... | |

More like forcing consistency again, it was disabled for a bit as it was broken by valve's tfc update where they added 'HD models', but I worked around it.
The server is actually using the stock list of files to enforce, with the addition of explosion sprites. If there is something in particular that you think should be allowed, let me know (preferably with the file name) and I'll look to see if I can add it to the exception list.

I always figured the reason you disabled it was because of that stupid Blue Shift HD Models update. One of the things Valve enforces is all of the grenade models, IIRC, and since the BS HD Models are now enabled by default for new installations/players, and since those replace the TFC grenade with the BS HD one, it would have kept newb players out who never knew how to bypass/fix that.
I imagine that when you say you found a way to work around it, that involved some way to allow those players in without expecting them to figure out where the problem is? Allowing a custom grenade model, or somehow forcing their models (or simply the grenade) to TFC default?
EDIT: In fact, thinking on it now, I can't think of much TFC enforces other than grenade models. It still allows you to replace just about everything else. | |

Well the stock server setting is either enforce consistency or not. I modded it to allow exceptions, so it can skip enforcement of the 'HD' grenade and allow enforcement of others.

I don't mind the HD models so much, but those sounds are hideous!
Let's be honest here, Source2 sounds don't belong in a GoldSource game.
Question, since we're on the topic.... is there a way to use the better models, and leave the sounds behind? | |

| | I haven't been back into the server to see if I've got anything it won't allow, but the only things I can recall being modded were rocket flares and pipe tracers.
http://i.imgur.com/7vsfueZ.png http://i.imgur.com/9Mn5dMl.png I used to have brighter "nail tracers", but they were less useful than I thought they'd be.

Why does it need to force consistency anyway?
I pretty much replaced all the guns, grenades, bags, health etc... to nicer looking models.

I get why you wouldn't want to allow clear sprites, it can provide a slight advantage. Just on a personal level I used to make videos and using clear sprites made the type of videos better imo. I switched back to all regular sprites as I dont really record anymore, so not a huge deal. I would definitely prefer being able to use clear sprites tho, for the rare occasion I do record. | |

You can record the demos without them, then put them in for when you run the demo and convert to AVI/YouTube compatible. That should allow them to show up in your video, without having used them on the server. | |

Actually, not as much work as you may think, now that I've given it a moment's thought. Try this:
Set your game up WITH them, and make sure it works(use a listenserver to verify), then copy the entire directory to a back-up location that you can label "TFC-Set For Video Recording" as a parent directory name. Also make sure your config files are "Read Only", and all your models in the right place.
Then, re-set your actual game directory for "in server" use, and make a back-up copy of that with the parent directory as "TFC-Server Use". Again, make sure your files are set to "read only".
Now... You can very easily copy/replace the whole directory, or even just the necessary files when you need to. I keep a separate master directory using date codes for storing demo files and screen shots.
Basically, you're doing a little bit of extra work at the start(set up), to make switching much easier(less work) on the recurring steps. | |

all my models work fine: players, 1st person weapons.
I *think* 3rd person weapons are disabled, so Ive dealt with it for years now. the only thing that is currently affecting me is the grenade models:
conc_grenade.mdl detpack.mdl emp_grenade.mdl mirv_grenade.mdl napalm.mdl ngrenade.mdl spy_grenade.mdl
--------------
I will double check on the p_ weapons, as I had converted them myself to work in TFC, but don't remember whats up with those. | |
