Okay, so, a month or two ago, my wife won a 47" TV from work. She works at Amazon now, and they have these occasional contests.
We didn't need it in the bedroom, as that TV is literally just barely fitting in the space between the wardrobes, we keep our clothes in. AND it's smaller than this one.
We didn't need it in the living room, as the TV there still works and is bigger.
So... it ended up in my computer room. I ordered a cable to hook it up to my PC, so that I can use it as a second monitor. My main monitor is 27", and it works just fine.
What I want to do, is to be able to use it for a few different purposes. One of which is either playing music videos while I am doing something else on my main monitor, or to do some streaming of what it's like from an Admin's view on the server.
I think that latter part would help some players understand the part us Admins play when they think we're just "slot hogging". And yes, I recently !whiner'd somebody for that accusation, and they got a ban lasting I honestly don't know how long.
Admins don't get that information. Whiners depend on your !whiner record. Could be 5 minutes, could be 5 days. We don't know.
It may be a "thankless job", for the most part. But I'm okay with that. I do it to serve the server and the community at large.
But I think it would be kinda cool to show what it is that I actually do when I'm on. Instead of just posting demos of shit that goes wrong on my YouTube channel. I'll be able to show when I'm playing, and when I feel the need to just "watch over things".
Oh, and yes, I will also make the recordings available on my YouTube channel, so it can be watched later.

It was common back in the day to join a HLTV server - Why? To spectate because server slots were full or the server was password protected. Having a quick look this doesn't seem to be an option for drippys? This would solve the slot hogging issue and also no one would know your spectating. It's pretty easy to type status in console and look at the last 4 digits of someone's I.D. to verify if they're an admin and to knock off the not so legal gameplay. The bigger issue for me is taking up a player slot when you aren't playing at a time when the server is at full capacity. :-( | |

Thing is, though, I actually DO play a few rounds when I'm on. Usually, I'll only go into Spectate when asked to (!report comes in), or just to take a break between rounds. I'll play 2-3 rounds, take a round off and just watch things, then get back to playing a few rounds. That, assuming that I don't get a !report.
Granted, there have been occasions where I've come in just to watch over the server for a few hours. I did notice that no other Admins were on at those times, so to me I was just "doing my duty".
But this is why I want to do this streaming thing.... so that I can be open about the whole process. | |

It seems that TFC may be too damned old to actually live stream with. I tried a few games that I have, and nothing that old is working with it.
I have a few tricks up my sleeve, though.... but I probably won't be able to do live. Just record the demos and play them with a video feed OBS might handle. But at least with that, I can do live commentary.
Not what I wanted to do... but we'll see how I can work this. | |
