Poll: What do you think of playing TFC on drippy's with FF on?
FF should be on all the time/I'm a cultured TFC player that appreciates the elegance of FF on (9%)
FF should never be on/I'm a butt-bitch-eunuch that just plays D and spams nades (9%)
FF should be on once in a while (just FF Fridays and special occasions) (59%)
FF should be on a little more than just FF Fridays but not all the time either (23%)
Poll has ended (it ran for 14 days). 22 total votes.
So I finally lost my playing with FF on virginity and I have to say my first time was quite good. It's like a totally different game what with you can't just spam nades, rockets, and pipebombs ever where. Especially on offense. I think the defense bias intrinsic to 2fort is somewhat mitigated with FF being on. I noticed that spies play a greater role than they do in FF off games. Not my server so not my decision, but I just got to say I think the game plays much better with FF on. There's more excitement and, granted I'm basing this off of playing two games with FF on, it seems like there is less likely to be stalemates.

Thoughts?

It should never be on. This server has been popular for so long for a reason. The simple reason is that the normal gameplay (restricted bhopping, no FF, strict adminning) is what attracts 99.9% of the regulars. If the regular formula didn’t work, people wouldn’t play.

I’d be interested to hear if attendances/playing hours dropped over the weekend, due to FF being on. I didn’t play. That’s about 4-8 hours of me not playing on Drippy’s this weekend. How many other regulars noped out of Iggy’s ego-driven enforced FF weekend?

I do appreciate the odd round of FF on a Friday, but an enforced full weekend of it? Not cool.

I'm not a fan of it, but I can live with it. I wasn't on Friday and won't be on today, but thats because I'm playing a different game with my son those nights. Last night I didn't play as long as usual, but that was for a different reason.

Lol Blake I love hyperbole and a half. anti depressant in a book.

I like FF and I like that drip 💧 gives some leeway to admins to do things somewhat differently

FF is a bit painful at the best of time and just stupid if you are with the herd of grapes against the select grapefruit, as FF nullifies the numbers advantage a lot. With that said, I know a few love it, so I think a compromise like FF Fridays work.

FF turns from a liability to an asset only with good communications and a well organized team. And public servers just aren’t that.

My favorite part of friendly fire is the complaining from other people. It's like somebody made a terrible dad-joke pun, and hearing the resulting groans from everyone is funnier than the actual pun.

But I also don't care about FF because I'm on O and not up my teammates' asses in the base trying to reinforce the notion that my team needs superfluous levels of defense.

While FF was certainly "the way" to play in leagues, my chief frustration for FF on a pub server like this with people that aren't quite as well versed is this:

Scenario:
I'm a soldier, DM'ing with someone. Enter a casual HWguy that doesn't play alot or understand the nuances of the game. Decides to walk right into one of my grenades that I tossed toward the enemy that wound up being unnecessary as I killed them before that final grenade. HWguy dies

I'm a spy, tossing a gas pill at a sniper toward sniper spawn. Teammate of mine comes over, lands on battlements, hiding in their cap point. They slowly take damage, I slowly take damage. They sit there waiting for someone to walk by for a kill

My point is, there's an element of awareness that has to be there amongst players in order to take full advantage of the added dynamic of FF.

I ran Offense last night with brah (we were the main 2 people on offense...there may have been 2 other casual supporters on offense but brah and I were the relentless players getting flags). Despite brah not having a mic, there was an obvious synergy and understanding of each other when working together to get the flag out. He understands the dynamic of FF as do I...we grinded and won the round despite some really challenging interactions. Also, some of the most fun I've had on this server was last nights game

FF becomes a disaster on a "casual" server because the nuances of FF aren't understood by casuals. And that's OK, it is what it is...just giving my $.02

It only nullifies the number advantage in the sense that poorly ranked people (more likely to be on the number advantage) have zero game sense and communication.

LETS ALL SIT ON BOTTOM SPIRAL!!! YAY!!! I NORMALLY SIT ON BOTTOM SPIRAL BUT SOMEONE ELSE IS HERE. LETS HAVE A PARTY! OH WAS THAT A FLY? LETS LEAVE MY DEFENDED SPOT EMPTY AND NOT TELL ANYONE.

A team with 16 should still be able to defend with FF on. It just requires spam reduction and spacing out.

1.) 2nd floor catching anything coming battlements/grate
2.) Top ele catching anything 1st floor misses
3.) Bottom ele catching anything top ele misses
4.) Top spiral catching anything 2nd floor misses
5.) Bottom spiral catching anything top spiral misses
6.) 1st Floor watching the two entries to ramp room.
7.) Front Door watching water spiral and front door.
8.) 4 engies in basement (1 sg on flag doing the 90, 1 sg x flag, 1 sg back of SH, 1 sg end LH

Then you still got 5 players left to go offense, one of which can be engie to do O teles.

Wow...Logic...

Its really not hard concepts. Also...Dont help the other players. Just stand your position and trust the layers. Helping with FF just does more harm than good.

I mean if you feel you can get some licks in without harming your teammate go right ahead or if there are 3 enemies fighting your teammate they are going to die anyway more than likely so spam away and reposition yourself.

If you are top spiral tell bottom you are healing up and then get back in position.

If you are bottom spiral and you need health switch off with the bottom ele. Bottom ele is now bottom spiral and you are now bottom ele.

I'm going to come right out and say it:

I respect all of the varying opinions on this topic. I don't know about all of you guys, but I had a lot of fun this weekend. I really didn't see a lot of griefing while FF was on, although there were some "random" incidents. I didn't have to ban anyone, so I got to actually play most of the rounds I was on.

I did take a little time to Spec when a few people... *ahem* COMPLAINED IN CHAT RATHER THAN USE !REPORT, DESPITE TELLING THEM SEVERAL TIMES TO!

I had some "real life" stuff happen yesterday, so I wasn't able to get on until much later than I wanted to... but with that said, I had a lot of fun, and I hope that, thinking back on it, you guys did, too.

I thought it would be a "change from the old spamfest" that we get all the time. Which, honestly, can be boring as shit, not to mention "counter productive".

I know Drippy- reads these threads, so I'm hoping he will take a few moments and find out the answer to this question: How many players earned a TK ban since I turned it on on Friday night, until I turned it off last night?

I have a funny feeling (and this is just a prediction) that that number will be a single digit. I could be wrong, but I honestly didn't notice anyone getting one. Of course, I wasn't on the entire weekend (which, actually, I wanted to do).

Brah was great to have on my team a few times, but also he was a real fucker to deal with when on the other team. Dude is a good player.

I still want to go and edit down my video from Saturday night, and post the round where I sniped. I haven't sniped an entire round in a long time, so I was surprised with some of the "luck shots" I got.

Also, it was pointed out to me that yesterday the server wasn't as full as normal. Don't forget, it WAS Father's Day, so a lot of players were likely spending time with their families. Saturday was pretty full all night, until things normally slow down. So I think it was the "holiday" that affected the numbers, rather than FF being on.

I'll still turn it on for a round here and there, as I do when someone requests it, or if I think the spam is just getting WAY out of hand.

Also, also, there were a good number of new players over the weekend. So, of course they don't know the dynamic of the game. But this is also something I want to point out to everyone: We were ALL new to this game once. Yelling at a new player is not going to help them learn. Point them here, to the website, and just tell them that this game takes time to learn. Be patient with them. Yes, it can be frustrating at times, but the only way we will keep new players interested in the game, and by extension, the community, is by helping them out a little.

In a way, TFC still sells for a reason. The game can be pure chaos, yet still draws new players. Take a moment to explain to them that they just need to stick with it, and they can learn. It won't be easy, but the best things are never easy.
