I got kicked for using ex_interp "0.01" in your server. I have never been kicked from a server for using this value before. It is completely legal to use "0.01" and this value is forced in tournaments and leagues (like ESEA). When you use the default value of "0.1", you can interpolate hitboxes, and shoot behind the target with it still registering. Here is a video of what the default value ("0.1") does. Its a clip from CS1.6, but TFC and CS1.6 use the same engine (Goldsrc), so the effects of the cvar are exactly the same.

You can clearly see why this setting is forced to "0.01" in tournaments and leagues. I'm not saying that Drippys should force it to "0.01" instead of "0.1", but you should at least allow players to use "0.01" since it is the legitimate and true value the setting should be set to. Please consider unlocking this cvar, thank you.

Sounds like a cheat(exploit), to me..... Allowing people to alter their hitbox settings to suit themselves smacks of it. If it's the same for everyone.... that's one thing. But allowing people to change it on their own..... that's bullshit, as far as I'm concerned.

I believe he's right, though... .01 was always standard in matches. Though, I remember this being discussed A LOT more in CS than TFC, though my memory is foggy.
Personally, I'm fine with the .1. I like how OP didn't ask if the it should be forced on the server, but allowed for those who choose to have it at .01 in lieu of .1.

IIRC, all TFC leagues enforced 0.1, but that was back when ex_interp was all messed up and gave a huge advantage for trailing shots at 0.01.

I'm pretty sure it was fixed to work as intended now (EDIT: confirmed it's fixed in TFC), and 0.01 simply gives more real-world info to the player, to make player positions more accurate instead of letting each player's game guess where all the other players are. Though, saying 0.01 is the best value is actually misleading, as it's only the best when played with an updaterate of 100 or 101 (which is where updaterate should be, assuming an ideal connection and PC).

The lock was probably created back when ex_interp was still bugged. I'd be interested to see if Drip does anything about the issue.

EDIT: It should also be noted that the default setting was made in an era when many players were still stuck in the dialup dark ages. Again, the default setting is more about prediction rather than about receiving accurate updates from the server, something which is no longer a problem for most people's current connection. Changing the value isn't an exploit, it's merely an optimization to improve the overall game experience for a player. Changing it really isn't that much different than changing mouse sensitivity. And I said this before as well, but Valve fixed the problems interp once had, rather than locking the variable as they easily could have. They left it open because they knew it was a worthwhile optimization that improves the play experience. Unless one has a valid argument of why it makes more sense for everyone to willingly play with worse hit registration.

Its moreso a cheat if you use the default "0.1" value, which is forced on the server, since it allows you to shoot behind the model and it still registers. If you watched till the end of the video, he makes a comment about how using the default "0.1" value can be considered cheating. Allowing us to play with "0.01" will make it more challenging for us to hit a target, since we are not interpolating, and the hitboxes are drawn correctly, preventing trail shots like the ones shown in the video.

I'm pretty sure that Wireplay, a TFC league, allows you too use ex_interp "0.01".

For sure it is fixed, in all Goldsrc games. Using "0.01" will draw hitbox positions more accuratly, prevent model smoothing, and not allow players to hit trail shots, like the ones shown in the video.

This is true, I just felt I didn't need to get into details since most servers nowadays (including Drippys) are set to sv_maxupdaterate "100". If you have a lower updaterate, say "35", your interp will have to be set to something higher like "0.033". It sets the correct value automatically if you just type in "0" for ex_interp.

Again, its not cheating or exploiting if you use a value of "0.01". Using the default "0.1" gives an unfair advantage since it allows players to hit trail shots (which some would consider cheating or exploiting). Playing with "0.01" will make it more of a challenge to hit a target, since it draws the hitboxes more accurately and prevents trail shots. You are technically handicapping yourself if you use "0.01", so don't think people who use "0.01" will have an advantage over you, because its the exact opposite. People who use the default "0.1" are the ones who have the advantage hence trail shots.

This is not EXACTLY how I would want a server to be set up. If I wanted to setup a server EXACTLY how I wanted, I would FORCE "0.01", like most leagues do since this disables interpolation and prevents trail shots registering, which are not cool. But, I'm just asking that at least it be an option to modify the value so I don't get interp kills and trail shots. I hate getting kills with trail shots. They don't feel legit. I only want legit kills, no trail shots. Someone can trail shot me, thats fine, I just want to feel satisfaction when I get a kill using NO INTERPOLATION.

I just got done having a fun time at Drippy's, and can confirm that ex_interp "0.01" is now allowed. I at least didn't get kicked for changing the value. It does still however set it to "0.1" when you join. So you have to manually type in "0.01" when you join. Regardless of that, thank you dear sirs for taking the time to unlock it and give us more freedom. It is truly appreciated.
