Me too. ;_; I really loved coming back to a TFC community, and I played like crazy for a few months. But then this laptop's insanely low FPS and mouse issues started affecting my gameplay and really frustrated me.

I need to build a new PC, but that's kind of intimidating for me too. Last time I built one was ages ago (it had bad luck with a faulty motherboard), and by now I'm hopelessly out of the loop. I don't really want to buy a pre-assembled one either, as I have even worse luck with those, and I'm looking for something that I could easily upgrade for video capture and editing some day as well. Don't suppose anyone has any advice or good websites on where to start? =/

Almost 8 years ago, I bought an upper-mid level HP PC. I have upgraded it a few times; HD, Power Supply, memory, and video card(most recent addition). It still runs great. It came with a 4-core processor(2.6ghz). Not counting OS upgrades.

The thing about buying vs building... You can customize a little more with building. Some say it's cheaper, but I've found this HP to be well worth the money in the long run. It cost $1100 initially, and I've spent maybe another $500 in the upgrades over the years. Considering it can still keep up with newer systems, I'd say it was a good investment.

From personal experience; I've had ill luck with "home rolled" systems. I've had a couple, but they never seemed to last more than a year and change. Even knowing how to repair/upgrade them.

I've had an overall decent experience with Cyberpower so far (http://www.cyberpowerpc.com/). Their customer service isn't the greatest, but if you're looking to customize for pretty good prices, it's worth looking into.

For a base line on what parts you can get for the money you want to spend - http://www.logicalincrements.com/
For pricing your parts - http://pcpartpicker.com/
Problem with prebuilts is you're spending a good amount of money for it to be assembled, which is to be expected, but they also throw in some shit parts too. Power supplies for example are usually as weak as possible and if you want to upgrade any parts, you have to upgrade the power supply too. If it's not the power supply they skimp out on, it's something else. They're looking to make as much money as possible and they'll cut any corner they can to do it.

Building a PC is rather simple. I've built only 4 computers in my entire life and it's not complicated or difficult. Pieces literally go where they fit, it's like a big lego set. Just read the installation instructions to make sure you don't break something putting it in wrong. My current build probably took me about an hour to put together, and since it has a fast SSD, it didn't even take that long to install Windows and all the drivers. Then again, when looking at how much you'll lose just because something's prebuilt, judging by the price of my PC, I would probably be spending a lot more if it were prebuilt. In case you're wondering, I have my specs in my Steam profile, I'm in that middle line in the Enthusiast bracket on that Logical Increments site.

People whine because you don't do what a demo should. You don't even play the game like a player should. It's Team Fortress Classic, and the point of the game and 2fort is to capture or defend the flag. You do neither. You simply go for no-skill trap kills while either sitting in, just outside of, or a running distance away from spawn (often from inside sniper spawn, which is the absolute most useless position you could possibly play). You blow your pipes and then run for safety, every time. You never intentionally put yourself at risk. You're nothing even remotely close to an effective defensive player if you keep tucking tail to run every encounter, as you let the vast majority of enemy players by you. Good demos should be able to play effectively in 1-on-1 encounters regardless of their traps. Back before I took my break, you would never move even a few feet to protect your team's flag if it was up the spiral or near the grate, and you'd still just sit in your usual safety spots. If you're on a dominating team and you feel safe enough to move up to your own sniper deck and lay a trap on the bridge, you won't even think to use them to boost friendly players, even when they ask. You're useless...

It's pretty telling when the majority of players who complain about you are on the same team as you, no? Get over your obsession with your meaningless K:D ratio, and instead impress your teammates with teamwork and legitimate skill, and you'll gain respect. There are plenty of good demos on the server who actually know how to play the class. As it is, you accomplish nothing that anyone else on the server cares about or is helped by.
so by killing the enemy doesnt count as defense? intresting. i think you need to pull the pickle out of your ass and get a girlfriend dude. you take life much too seriously. if someone kills alot of players, no need to take your frustrations out on me. i have gone offense but find that being a soldier is better. i suck at offense via the demo which i know best. i agree on the team work - sorry for not having a mic on my computer and not knowing how to team chat. i only see default team chat announcements. i sure enough kill you and everyone else enough to know i might have some skill of which you say i have none. relax dude.

playing a game. as soon as i pop my head out as i join the game...headshot. so i say "holy autoaim!" not directed to anyone but meaning "goddam we have some sick snipers ready to take my head off"

i get banned for several days. what the hell? yall need to seriously relax.

other people say shit all the time. i say something, yall flip. that is why i dont say anything. so dont complain that i dont say a word and people whine about me doing what a demo should.

unban me for crying out loud.
is there a way to disable chat and me reading it also? ill keep my mouth shut but if i respond to someone accusing me aka whining, i get banned. real fair justice.

I purposely try to single you out when I'm running on O, pipes. You're good, but I agree on what they say above. Need more communication when you're playing on D and less running back to spawn if you're low on health and somewhere near spawn. You got the skill, just need to get used to Drippy's and how things work.
well if i keep my health low, how can i effectively defend against more than one enemy? die? let the crowd come in? i still dont understand.

check my stats tard. i have play from many places and not just two spots. only people who complain are not the majority of players and on my same team, its losers like you. so killing the enemy effectively and in good numbers is not skill. i hope they throw your ass in iraq or afghanistan one day. maybe you ll learn killing enemy is key. if you want me to stand on the bridge for a sniper to take me out, dont hold you breadth.
