Poll: Which decision/option would you choose?
1. (21%)
2. (43%)
3. (29%)
4. (7%)
Poll has ended (it ran for 14 days). 14 total votes.
Joined a game, where the teams are stacked against you, and you are only down by one cap, and you look at your team and notice you have 4 engys, 4 soldiers, 1 hwguy, 1 demo and your like oh D must be covered, im going o. As your going O alone, you observe the other team has about 7 to 8 D and strategically placed where you cant even get to the flag room to get the flag, however the two O the enemy team has is able to get through your teams defense and cap the flag a second time. then a third. Then being the only good player on your team, you are forced to make a decision,

1.) You switch to D to minimize caps and to assist your other 10 teammates who are on D and allow one to two people to get the flag, secretly hoping someone good joins the game and on your team to assist you.

2.) You say fuck it, stay on Offense, and get more and more pissed as you being an alone O player and cant penetrate the enemy defense, as the enemy team is stacking up caps against you, while you anxiously await for someone else to join the game and go O with you, just to find out that your team has one more player than the enemy team and the Good O player you were hoping to assist you, are forced to join the winning enemy team.

3.) You switch to sniper class, and start trying to kill everyone.

4.) You Rage Quit, and hope to rejoin later and have a decent team.

Option #2 for me is going spy or medic and not necessarily trying to cap the flag, but trying instead to break down the defense by making them spy check everyone or mass infecting. Then again I might go troll the sniper deck and try to cause some RQ's or maybe even troll the bridge and backstab fuckers like Ballsack who think O fatties are "cool"

    Option 4 for me. =P

When I'm getting no help on offense and the rest of my team can't successfully defend against a 1 or 2 man offense, I just get too frustrated in my own team and end up leaving. No point in getting pissed over an online game. I leave, cool off, play something else, do something else, anything.

#1 Go D and start shutting down the opposing team O. What use is it to be the only O and beat your self senseless. If your gonna lose at least try to minimize the losses.
We all can't be EPZ ffs.

    More options:
-Go like all pimp ass gansta and shit - Fuck dem bitches up.
-Forget about capping; use the time for target practice
-Use public chat to express political or religious views, or just say weird shit (just don't over-do it)
-Download some porn and rub one out while you're waiting for the next round.
-Piss and moan about how unfair the teams are then disrupt the game. Complain about every possible thing, it's what people want to hear.
-Give it your best shot.
-Try and assist the new comers.
-Have a beer with Ralphy. You win some, you lose som

    Done 1,2 and 4.

1 when the enemy is waiting for the flag after capture. Some games, ensuring they don't cap again is the only win.

Sometimes if things steady, you get to go O. Someone else joins, and you start capping. Game officially on.

And 4 for when my mood is likely to warrant a ban.

A wise ancient Dutch man once said: "In Team Fortress Classic, quitting when you're ahead is not the same as quitting. To ragequit, however, is to prevent further perceived loss of character, possibly hurting your very own ego." - Reckoner >:p

The male ego is seriously a big thing in this game. :o

In some matches there is really not much to learn or is there a way to improve your game any further. There will be matches that are "predictable", just by looking at the players & classes on each of the teams.

Especially now, since the matches are 30 minutes each. In a singleplayer-only videogame, like some RPGs for example, you are rewarded for "grinding" making the next few stages in the game less tedious/difficult and you feel like you're improving your character(s) in-game.
The other reward is just enjoying the story itself and advancing the plot and what not. In a multiplayer videogame like TFC on Drippy's, grinding against a mostly D team is rarely rewarded. You do unlock an achievement however: "Persistence bonus" for playing offense only, for 30 straight minutes.

There is very little reason not to have a few players on offense, it forces at least a sentry gun and a soldier in the basement from the opponent. And if they see that the flag is in the middle of the spiral, the opponent might add more players on defense and also your own team can help on offense.

But when the opponent starts out with an overkill on defense, basically playing for a tie 0 - 0 game, :( then yeah... it does hurt.

Easy there brosef! That wasn't directed at only you per se.
I'm set in my league days where O didn't fight O and D didn't fight D. Those days for most TFC players are long gone, nobody practices OvD anymore like it was done during league format. There was no such thing as O snipers, demos or heavies. Likewise Med, Scouts, Pyros were all O. Sollies, Engies, and spies could be used either O or D, but the cardinal rule remained. If you were O, you didn't attack the enemy offense coming out of their base. And in reality the only time D would ever come anywhere near each other or out of their base for that matter was to guard a flag.
The HW and demo should always rotate around the flag. The HW should cover the demo, so the demo can concentrate on piping and trapping the flag. A HW can take a lot more damage from other O classes than any other D class, thus he becomes the backbone of the D and if he can't kill the enemy he makes said enemy short work for the rest of the d. How does that get accomplished if he's in the enemy base?

Did you just say Demos should never be O but pyros should be? I find it hard to believe pyros were used in league play at all.

Also, I don't shoot people on the bridge, I still hold by that no OvO model. I will, however make sure you die if you shoot me first, unless I know I'm only going to take 1 shot and that's it.

Ballsack and I would probably differ with you Smoke, with all due respect (and much respect is due). I have played many games where O is just short of having the firepower to overcome basement, ele, or ramp room sgs and other obstacles like pipers in the spiral, etc.

While I agree that fattys can usually be an effective D player (a roving SG if you will), on the occasions where we are not being overrun in the basement (maybe 2 sgs and at least one engy babysitting), I have joined offense. As a fatty, I can make a pretty good contribution to removing obstacles. Taking out one or two sgs while the offense is making a big push has been a big help. If nothing else, it's just one more player to have to deal with. I have pretty good luck on offense making it my mission to simply clear the sg that is causing trouble (a suicide mission), or to just help a touch occur. Because, as you said, fattys can take more damage. On occasion, I have been asked to simply harrass snipers.

Once a flag is anywhere out of the basement, I always join O if practical, as with my excess armor I can sometimes just run toward the flag (ignoring people who want to engage me) and often clear the area around the flag or even get a touch. I can cause a lot of chaos for D especially in the main room. Two MIRVs dropped in a crowded spiral or bm area are real crowd pleasers.

In other words, I think the best capping teams are flexible as to who plays where when a need arises. I usually communicate with my team, and ask if they want me to join O. Sometimes the answer is yes and sometimes it's no.

Now as to whether fattys can be cool.....

I have to say that there have been exceptions but for the most part, a fatty that's engaged from the bridge on doesn't usually make it to the box room. More often than not they are dealt with right around main spawn area.
Wally, I think anyone can agree a skilled HW with decent conc aim can almost hold down a flag room on their own, and at the very least they do a fair amount of damage before the flag leaves the basement. I just don't see the logic of sending an O fatty constantly while the d collapses or worse is non existent.
