No one is denying there is a problem. We just disagree on exactly WHAT the problem is.

You are on the "ZOMG GUNZ R BAD, MMMMMKAY!!!" side.

Most people with common sense are on the "let's get guns out of the hands of nutjobs without infringing on normal people's rights" side.

Thing is, you only hear from the "turn in your guns NAOW!!" crowd, and the "cold dead hands" crowd.

We won't get anywhere until everyone realizes that "taking guns away from everyone" won't work. But we can agree that they needs to be a better way. Obviously, hanging a "GUN FREE ZONE" sign didn't help, doesn't help, and never will help.

The problem is that there is no problem.

Compared to other first-world nations, America may look like the bad apple with its gun problem. But there are lots of places INSIDE the US where living, economic, and social conditions make them look like the third world. Compare those with similar nations and you'd find the US is actually BETTER.

Total waste of oxygen trying to debate with the likes of you anti-gun lackwits, however. By all mean, go ahead and ban guns. I can't wait to see your world turned upside down because your government decides to go apeshit and treat you like an ISIS insurgent.

That's a bit in poor taste considering what happened over there, I'm afraid.

I just saw the news. 100+ people dead and counting. This was an organized attack. Shit is crazy.

Correct. It wasn't meant to be tasteless(apologies if I came off that way). I've since learned that, as I suspected, France has very strict gun laws.

And yet something like this happens. Yes, it's disgusting, sad, and really pisses people off to see an attack like this. More than 100 dead, God alone knows how many wounded, and not a single attacker left alive to prosecute.

Military grade automatic guns, and home-made bombs were used. Both of which are illegal. Those laws stopped absolutely none of this.

I haven't seriously weighed in on this thread yet. But it occurs to me that it's only a matter of time until most countries, including ours, start arming ordinary citizens with concealed weapons like they do in Israel. It's similar to what we do on airplanes with air marshals that are armed but look like regular people. I would volunteer to do that job. When I was a judge, I had a concealed weapon permit and took extensive training to get it.

I'm sure there's a large number of people who would be willing to take the training necessary to fulfill this job. At least in a situation like the one that occurred in Paris, and might occur elsewhere, it would give a fighting chance to the innocent people. The other purpose, of course, is to discourage the terrorists because they must assume that there might be armed people. In Paris, they would have been pretty confident that no one in that theater would be armed.

Yes, we could have accidental fire incidences, but given the scope and magnitude, we may decide it's worth the risk. Friendly fire occurs even in wars, where the soldiers are very highly trained.

My other thought, not on topic, is that eventually we will probably attack innocent civilians in retaliation regardless of their affiliation, if they're in areas that cheer this type of activity. There is going to have to be a deterrent, other than wringing our hands and saying that the guilty will be brought to justice.
