I find it odd that i was banned for dropping a mirv at the spawn doors. Ive been playing on this server for years and everyone does it and no one cares. I always, always ensure no more than one nade is dropped by the spawn.

Now all of a sudden I'm banned for doing it one time? Who was the admin that did this?

This happens every single game and no one ever complains, until today ... ? Strange.

2.8 - What constitutes respawn spamming/camping?

There is no fine line for someone to walk on this rule. The general rule of thumb is to not try to get cheap kills from people spawning. We want to provide protection from people sitting outside the spawn door with a pipe trap, but at the same time not allowing people to run into spawn to hide every time they might get killed or infected.
Yeah dropping a mirv every time you go by the spawn, pretty obvious what you are trying to do.

Yeah, it does happen almost every single game. The reason you don't hear anyone complain is people use !report. Otherwise, you get banned for whining. Snap out of it.

I told you what you were doing was wrong, there was no target, I saw mirvs plus pipes sent toward the main spawn door. I chased you down the spiral to find out who it was.

When I told you, I believe your response was "Yes I did it. Did it kill you?" I didn't even report you, I was just letting you know it was against the rules so you *wouldn't* get into trouble.

I think if you just said okay rather than giving a wise ass reply you probably would not have been banned. Your response basically said "Yeah I know, I just don't give a shit."

A regular was banned permanently earlier this year for doing basically the same thing.

I was just joking around like I usually do. I suppose I never new it was a rule to begin with because NO ONE every complains. Anyways, understood, no more nades near the spawn door.

Funny though, most of the regulars toss nades at the main spawn door every time they land on the sniper deck. I've never reported them ... but now I will.

    From the FAQ:

There is no fine line for someone to walk on this rule. The general rule of thumb is to not try to get cheap kills from people spawning. We want to provide protection from people sitting outside the spawn door with a pipe trap, but at the same time not allowing people to run into spawn to hide every time they might get killed or infected.
Accidents happen. People will get killed right outside the spawn with a grenade primed. People will toss a grenade at a sentry to have it bounce off an enemy's head and to the spawn door.

There are legitimate reasons to spam the spawn as well. A streaking or statwhorish player may be playing out of (hugging) the respawn, in which case attacking them there is really your only chance of killing them. The same is said for sniper spawn, as this gives people permission to jump up and hunt them down (so long as they arent spamming all their grenades trying to get cheap kills from other people). Explicitly allowed is one spy grenade, as it makes a team paranoid about spies and reduces their effectiveness. Spamming 4 gas nades at the spawn is trying to get cheap kills, however. Even if this is a team effort (one gas gren per spy), having more than two gas grenades there is trying to get cheap kills and whoever adds to the spam is guilty.
Just because you don't see people complain in pub-chat, doesn't mean they aren't using "!report". Quite often, a report is filed very quietly, because the offender knows the rules. If you've managed to reach "regular" status(50 hours), you're expected to know the rules.

The fault with that is that... a mirv doesn't just explode once and is done. If you just toss one just to toss it, you don't have a target and in essence it could take out a handful of freshly spawned players with little to no warning. While a single grenade may do the same, it doesn't explode 4 times in succession.
Emp's close to main are also frowned upon unless there is a buildable in the general area of it, simply for the fact that there is little to no warning.
A pill or napalm is easily seen therefor you can wait in spawn until it dies, the same situation with a nail gren, you can't see it on the other side of the door, but you can hear it.
Also to clarify, there is nothing wrong with tossing a nade into the main resupply entrance hallway because (unless you're a n00b, you don't exit that door) and furthermore unless it's a pill or napalm it generally shouldn't do any damage to people in spawn unless the door is open.
I toss a nail gren into that hallway almost every time I rocket into the grate room, and never have I come under any fire about spawn killing, and yeah accidents happen to the best of us, which generally gets overlooked if it's an isolated occurrence... But yeah, if I saw a mirv outside of main exit frequently tossed by the same player I would probably say something as well.

    Hi Smoke.

When I said "main spawn door" I was referring to the exit, not the entrance. When you land on the sniper deck, most people toss nades, pills, napalm, and mirvs to the right which bounce around the corner and land in front of the main spawn exit.

All I was saying is that I see this all the time.

Anyways, just thought I would clarify.

One pill is expressly allowed at spawn. Nothing else. However many admins feels that 1 napalm is ok. Also caltrops are obviously ok

But goes overlooked quite a bit, because it's not an "instant kill". The nail grenade(like caltrops) were designed to "slow down pursuers".

Obviously, we don't try to justify asking Drippy- to make a bunch of new rules for people to abuse. It's up to an Admin's discretion, and it seems to be working pretty well.

As for the entrance.... almost anything goes there. Reason being: Anyone going INTO the resupply has been in the field of play. Unless you're using an EMP that can affect those inside the resupply, the only one's getting hit are those running for health.

But the problem with that is that in theory, you should also be running into your own spam. I figured that's what you meant which is why worded my response as I did.
And I totally forgot about caltrops, which generally can be avoided fairly easily.

I think I know what he's talking about, Smoke.... and I see it a bit, also. At least, in the evenings when I get a chance to play. Doesn't happen in the mornings so much.

There's a sniper on the deck, so as you prepare to conc out of the water, you prime a frag nade. Get on the deck, no sniper... toss around corner.

Ever since the Easter Egg hunt, I've gotten a bit better at air-strafing. Almost to the point where I can spin in mid-air and throw the nade behind me.... where the sniper is likely to be.

But yeah, I've seen people prime nades to jump up on deck, and throw them around the corner blindly. It's not cool, but what can you really do about it? Drop a ban on them and hope they get the message.

Please use !report if you think someone is trying to get a cheap kill by spamming spawn. If what you consider to be a cheap kill does not match up with what the admin is seeing, you will be warned not to abuse the !report function.

The cheap kill rule is simple and requires the discretion of the admin.

A player should be able to leave respawn with full health and armor if they just spawned but not if they went back into spawn to re-equip.

The following spots are warnable/kickable/bannable:
1. Spawn
2. Exit of main spawn
3. Sniper drop down

Exceptions:
1. Someone playing from spawn
2. Chasing an opponent who cowardly went back into spawn
2a. You may only attack that person and no one else in spawn. You may attack after you are attacked but if even splash damage harms another spawning player then you will be warned/kicked/ban (careful with those nades).
3. Going into spawn to destroy teles.
3a. You may only attack teles and no one else in spawn. You may attack after you are attacked but if even splash damage harms another spawning player then you will be warned/kicked/ban (careful with those nades).
4. 1 pill/nalpam/caltrop/conc at spawn.
4a. This is 1 only. If you throw another nade of the same type you will be warned/kicked/ban.
5. Admin discretion. Sometimes players screw up and toss a nade at spawn but it is not a regular pattern. Other times a player died while holding a grenade (note: this can be a fine line, some players will spam spawn by dying there holding a nade again and again. You will be warned/kicked/ban). Etc...

You should know what is a cheap kill. We have all dropped into a server where you could not leave respawn without walking into a wall of spam.

I have also been guilty of breaking this rule (I am too easily goaded by a demo playing from the sniper deck tossing mirvs. I will chase them into spawn or go up the sniper drop down to get them and... splash damage, damn you Kyree). I was called out a few weeks back and had to kick myself, the player was right.
