When you land on the sniper deck, most people toss nades, pills, napalm, and mirvs to the right which bounce around the corner and land in front of the main spawn exit. | | Chance of an enemy engineer building a sentry gun outside main respawn right after prematch is over: 50%
Chance of a sentry gun outside main respawn: 20-40%; usually it's x main or near RR - less than 10% it sits directly outside the exit
Chance of Trooper / luke AKA Akira building a sentry gun directly under main respawn: 75% (for EMPs only)
Chance of someone playing from main respawn exit, when Pipes / MuGeN is on the enemy team: 80-90%
Chances of either player doing it when the enemy flag is in top spiral/box room: guaranteed
A spy pill grenade landing outside the main respawn exit has less coverage than the same outside the entrance. If I enter via the front door, one pill goes under main, as most likely I won't survive the trip going past RR. If I enter via the sniper deck, I don't toss it around the corner, I toss it towards the entrance. Now, if someone's actively playing from the exit and I can see them after the first toss, I'd toss everything else - because fuck you, they're totally asking for it.
If you come in from the sniper deck, you likely don't have any line of sight towards main respawn until you turn the corner. Wait 1-2 ticks priming the nade, then bounce it off the deck corridor's wall so it stays within the corridor when it goes off. Or, throw the stuff towards x main or box room.
Don't fucking assume someone is gonna walk out of the main respawn exit - if I'm on the other team and see pipebombs and MIRVs outside the exit door, chances are I'm going to die to them... so I can find out who did it and !report their faggot ass.

Funny though, most of the regulars toss nades at the main spawn door every time they land on the sniper deck. I've never reported them ... but now I will.
| | Please use !report if you think someone is trying to get a cheap kill by spamming spawn. If what you consider to be a cheap kill does not match up with what the admin is seeing, you will be warned not to abuse the !report function.
The cheap kill rule is simple and requires the discretion of the admin.
A player should be able to leave respawn with full health and armor if they just spawned but not if they went back into spawn to re-equip.
The following spots are warnable/kickable/bannable: 1. Spawn 2. Exit of main spawn 3. Sniper drop down
Exceptions: 1. Someone playing from spawn 2. Chasing an opponent who cowardly went back into spawn 2a. You may only attack that person and no one else in spawn. You may attack after you are attacked but if even splash damage harms another spawning player then you will be warned/kicked/ban (careful with those nades). 3. Going into spawn to destroy teles. 3a. You may only attack teles and no one else in spawn. You may attack after you are attacked but if even splash damage harms another spawning player then you will be warned/kicked/ban (careful with those nades). 4. 1 pill/nalpam/caltrop/conc at spawn. 4a. This is 1 only. If you throw another nade of the same type you will be warned/kicked/ban. 5. Admin discretion. Sometimes players screw up and toss a nade at spawn but it is not a regular pattern. Other times a player died while holding a grenade (note: this can be a fine line, some players will spam spawn by dying there holding a nade again and again. You will be warned/kicked/ban). Etc...
You should know what is a cheap kill. We have all dropped into a server where you could not leave respawn without walking into a wall of spam.
I have also been guilty of breaking this rule (I am too easily goaded by a demo playing from the sniper deck tossing mirvs. I will chase them into spawn or go up the sniper drop down to get them and... splash damage, damn you Kyree). I was called out a few weeks back and had to kick myself, the player was right. | | Excellent post! While I know it's allowable to "defend" yourself when teleporter hunting... I use the general rule of "Discretion the better part of valor".... in other words, I don't get into a fire-fight in there. It usually won't go well. Take out the tele(s), and run like hell. Once they are past the drop down, though.... it's on.
I've seen more than one admin "suck it up", and put a kick/ban on their record because they did something wrong(either by accident, or from being pissed off). Anyone willing to do that, gets major kudos in my book.

This would be the discretion of the admin and is subjective, it would be applied differently. The admin has to determine the intention of the player but it is such a small area we are talking about. We don't want players camping spawn but we also don't want to take away the ability of a player using the main entrance to chase players that exit spawn to the sniper deck or spiral.

Heres the question of the day: If I spawn in sniper respawn as sniper and someone is in there killing teles, they cant kill me if I do nothing to them. Is charging my sniper rifle considered doing something or am I safe until an actual bullet has left the chamber?

You are off limits until the bullet causes damage.
You could 'protect' the tele or the very cowardly player that ran back into respawn mid fight by standing in the line of fire. If you are hit, the other player broke the rule (caveat: if the offending player does not have a pattern of doing this the admin might just give a warning).

just charging the shot will clear the flag on the server that marks you as a fresh spawn. I would call that engaging and he should be able to defend himself.

I agree with that. You won't click fire and aim unless you have a clear intention of killing someone. It would be too much of a safe net to let a sniper charge their shots, and fire a possible one-shot kill to only then give someone a chance to defend themselves (from a one shot kill?)
| tref wrote: You are off limits until the bullet causes damage. | | You mean until the freshly spawned player hits an opposing player? What if he/she has bad aim and takes a few shots to actually hit the mark? :P | |

Put it this way: if you want the enemy docked for "camping/spamming respawn for cheap kills", you simply cannot use your weapons at all until you have left the respawn area.
