I'm considering this a whine in its own right, though it's more of an observation than anything.

I'm a firm believer that the morning/day/noon/early afternoon matches are not really competitive in comparison to the matches later in the evening. This is partially because of the amount of people playing, but also it feels like at times people are playing less competitively during these hours and some may even play just to pad their stats. I understand that this is a pub server and people play from all over the world and in different time zones.
The bottom line is we all play for fun (especially now that TFC is truly not a competitive league game anymore) and it doesn't matter how competitive the matches really are.
But it definitely seems the best matches are from 6-10PM EST. Some of the day matches are just people running around like a chicken with their head cut off, while people breeze by them and repeatedly cap. The same could be said for the real late matches when everyone is either half asleep or drunk or what have you.
But I can tell you from an Offensive player perspective, I find it much better playing later in the day when the teams are focused and the server has more than 12 people in it.
Perhaps I'm talking out of my ass, perhaps it's the 5 cups of coffee speaking. But long story short, the best matches are later in the day!
Anyone care to refute?

And yes, I will admit. Sometimes it is fun just to pad caps. I've been guilty of doing that before, back when I was working from home and could play earlier in the day. But in all honestly, I have more fun capping against a good team of 12 players than an unfocused team during the day.

I dunno, man.... I see some almost "pick up" style games in the early afternoon hours. Sure, there are some newbies who don't know what they are doing, but in a less chaotic situation, that's when you can best teach them.

Hell, I've brought a few "n00bs" on before everyone starts showing up, just to teach them a few things. Sure, once they know the mechanics of it, they have to practice it to become proficient at it.... but that part is on them.

I see a LOT of "spam" matches in the times you mentioned, which will sometimes make me put FF on, just to see if the next round will be "better".

There are times when the full on chaos is a shitload of fun. I can't deny that. I also now pay attention to the "match quality" rating that Ralphy puts out.

    Usually morning/afternoon games are 100-0.

What I mean is one good player can sway the whole game towards that team they are ons favor. Now before you say well that's the case any time of the day, its really not. One good player shines brighter in a 4vs4 or 5vs5 compared to a 12vs12 or 13vs13

And to this, I say: YOU PATHETIC FUCKS!! Are you citing drippy stats in your resumes?? Are you shooting for that promotion to "greeter"?? Fat chance!!

Hahaha, no.. I don't really put much emphasis on stats being used as a measuring stick of how someone plays the game or is a good teammate. But, I can tell you that a cap against a full team in a full server feels 1000x better than capping in a match where there's not much going on.
As far as putting the stats on the 'resume', I will say that there were a few exceptions..For a little bit there, Priest and I were poking fun at each other for demoman kills and we were leapfrogging one another. But he doesn't really play anymore :( there's no chance in hell anyone will ever catch you at demoman kills, Walnuts. If anything, you should put it on your resume. Also, congratulations on surpassing 365 days of playing time on Drippy's. You've officially dedicated a year of your life to playing TFC. 😊
padding stats for caps.. Well, there's a point where sometimes you keep capping and no one stops you or attempts to kill you. This usually happens when the server is barely full. It's good practice for maneuvering in full matches; Ie. Practicing hh concing in certain parts of the base, or concing to the sniper deck and concing all the way over to ele with one full swoop. It's difficult but doable. Unfortunately capping over and over in those kind of matches isn't as rewarding, but at least you get credited for a cap. Again, though, one could argue that stats are stats and shouldnt be uses as a measuring stick of sorts. For example.. YAO MING was put into the basketball HOF last year. His stats aren't amazing, but his impact on basketball exceeds his personal statistics.

The only stat that gets me going is the kill stat when "such-and-such's" name flashes on the screen saying they got their 10,000th kill (or whatever number they're up to)... all others are incidental, to me. I'm closing in on 30,000, so, yippy :)
There used to be a website that tracked all your stats collectively from all the TFC servers but it's been gone for years now :(

EDIT: Yay, just reached that minor milestone :)

Don't you find those games just relying on pure spam almost? I see alot of games now with 4 engys and multiple demos on D. Just a pure turtle fest. You can still cap on teams like that but I find games when there are maybe 8 per team much more entertaining. I will say, I always have fun when me and you are on Off together.

Seems like you're saying that's a bad thing? I can't remember ever really thinking that way. I always wanted to go against the best, so fucking what if I lose. That always helped me get better. You may win that round but you'll remember my name.

Stats are for suckers. But grats on shit like 30k kills and time played. Dedication is where its at.

I usually can only play for a bit between 6-10 pm eastern, so I say bring on the spam. It is significantly improving my evading and no-scoping abilities.

The rare times I have played during the day the matches felt like warm-ups for later. There usually isn't as much seriousness, although I think some of that is subconscious since the server is almost never full.

I work from home so I pop in for 5-10 minutes at a time throughout the afternoon. Tends to be a much smaller mix of new guys and people unhappy with the current Evil map.
Some good games occasionally but agree for the most part these are scrums and basically just a bit more fun than playing against bots.
There is alot less spam vs a 26x26 game tho so that is a plus.

Awwww, shucks. Not that impressive considering its been about 12 years. Also, its the only video game I ever really played. I don't have an XBox or a PS and don't have to go downloading a hundred+ games finding one where the players don't eat my lunch. You find one yet?
