Confiscating money from half of the U.S. citizens (the half that actually pay taxes), sending that to Washington to then have a bunch of un-elected bureaucrats in D.C. determine how best to help the needy doesn't work.
For you. It doesn't work for you.

Every Libertarian I've ever met has the most difficult time understanding that being born is a lottery.

Families that can't afford to look after their own, can't look after their own. Local charities and churches that don't have money, can't help disadvantaged citizens.

It works for the 66 million people aged 65+ and/or people with disabilities.

It works for the tens of millions of children that received subsidized school lunches, who otherwise don't eat.

In my district in Ohio, there's a 4-figure number of children who only get a single full meal during the day - from the school they go to.

It works for the 53 million people that were lifted above the poverty line.

I contend that practically EVERY example of so-called help that is scaled up to the national level is an abject failure in both cost and effectiveness and often results in making the situation worse.
Have you ever been on food stamps?

You have a lot of XYZ things to say about entitlement - though it seems obvious you aren't able to recognize the entitlements you have by not having experienced any of the above.

All of the [failed] programs you mentioned are perfectly safe; Democrats hold on power requires a large population dependent upon government, so they will of course keep promoting these programs regardless of the cost or damage they inflict.

Additionally, once an entitlement is put in place, it is practically impossible to get rid of it.

The only danger is if other people's money runs out, or runs away as is the current case in New York and California OR if those held captive in these programs ever wake up and cast off their deceitful captors (not likely).

We're stuck in a cycle where we continue to punish productivity and responsibility and reward just the opposite. You can only do that for so long.

^i hadn't heard of Dave Smith before, but I just finished watching that video in the link that you sent. I generally don't get much out of comedian's videos; I much prefer to see them live. That said, this was very entertaining and it's aged extremely well.

And of course, his spiel about the decline of the country resonated with me, which is what I presume triggered you to bring him up to me in the first place (that and his transparently libertarian views).

Good to know you consider keeping people alive an “inflicted damage.”

Your manifestos don’t lessen the privilege or entitlement you’ve had in the world, regardless of the number of times you evade questions that would highlight it. Surprising that you’re unable view things from any other perspective than your own.

Let’s try a simple one. Tax season is finishing up. How much did you donate to charities this year?

^I purposely avoid claiming to see anything from anyone's perspective other than my own in order not to rile the ultra sensitive and have them accuse me of cultural appropriation.

I unapologetically espouse self-reliance, honoring one's debts and obligations, accepting blame when it's warranted, and showing up to work on time.

Oh, and for the literacy impaired, examples of the "inflicted damage" to which I referred were the previously mentioned total breakdown of the nuclear family in the black community brought forth by the step function expansion of the national welfare state and the senseless condemning of an entire town by the EPA.

I know this is a favorite of yours to bring up. How much is enough? What's too little in your eyes? What percentage of income should go toward charity?

I'm curious, because I donate here or there, mostly to my university, but also to St. Jude and the local Child Advocacy Center.

Do you donate because it's the right thing, or do you do it for virtue points?

It's great if you give to charity, but if you don't, I don't hold that against anyone.

This year, $1,600 between:
Givedirectly.org
Ronald McDonald House
<my city> first responders foundation
Goodwill

Some years more, some less. For instance, I had a spike in 2020 when I was inspired to donate a big lump to <my city> first responders foundation in the midst of all that #defundthepolice nonsense that was going on at the time.

Then there was a few years before that when I donated a car to Kars4kids and before that a truck to the Kidney foundation.

I also periodically give to:
St Judes
Operation Smile
Wounded Warrior Project

For the past 20 years or so, my Christmas gift to my two nephews and niece is a set amount of cash that each can split as they see fit between him or herself and whatever charity(ies) they choose. Any amount they designate for charity I match.

Over the years, they've chosen the likes of:
The Sierra Club
Coalition for Rainforest Nations
ACLU
Action against hunger
Big Brothers of America
Alzeimer's foundation
Partnership to end addiction
American Cancer Society
Ocean Conservancy
ASPCA
Enquiries WWF-Austrailia
Full Belly Project
Environmental Defense Fund
American Lung Association
Animal Welfare Institute
Against Malaria
Wounded Warrior Project
Globalgiving
Fisher House Foundation
Bread for the world institute
and others I can't recall

I recognize that some of those are particularly leftist causes that I wouldn't ordinarily be inclined to throw money at, but I do what the kid's instruct me to do and besides, I figure it will help throw the FBI off of my trail.
