Be mindful it may botch your TFC and you will have things act weird and stuff be there but over written. I had steam cloud on cause I reinstalled an old game and lost my save so I turned it on to restore my save and I turned it off once done with it and it messed up my TFC where it wanted to make my name Player and use weird ass config settings. Every start up it did this. I switched to a different class in a recent game and it locked on me. I had to reinstall not just TFC but HL too. Luckily I saved a lot of my stuff but still was a bitch to deal with that steam cloud screwed me over. | |

ALWAYS keep backups. Do a backup BEFORE changing settings, and another AFTER doing them. Just in case.
There's a reason I have 24TB of storage on my PC. Well, aside from all of the shit I record... but it's also to keep multiple backups across multiple drives for the real important shit.
An older drive may fail.... but the likelihood of 5 drives all failing at once is pretty much nil. Especially given that I have a SERIOUS surge protector that everything is plugged into.
No joke, that surge protector is 30 years old, and rated for its lifetime against a direct lightning strike. I haven't heard anyone say a negative thing about these. | |

The steam cloud shit pisses me off on the Command and Conquer remastered due to the save game limit bug where you're only allowed a certain amount of cloud storage & unable to delete files to free up space. Can't save tiberium dawn saved games sometimes due to that.
For games like TFC or World of Warcraft I've always just grabbed the entire game installation folder and copied it to a seperate drive with a marked date keeping 2-4 copies in total deleting the oldest one every time. Careful to make a new backup before making any changes. If files get corrupted or config files messed up, there's nothing easier than to delete your old game folder and simply paste or copy the recent one back.
Like with all games you can have steam verify the integrity of your game installation where it will look for missing files, not sure if that process overrides your config.cfg or not. tldr is it's easy to just copy the whole thing rather than writing down a list of config.cfg user.cfg and a handful of other files to backup only and then being very careful to replace those in the correct locations too. | |

I haven't encountered that "undocumented feature" in C&C Remaster...... How many game saves did it take to get there?
Also, since you mentioned C&C.... did you get the Complete Collection they added not too long ago? I've only had 1 or 2 crashes with Tiberian Sun.... but I usually "Save" after each mission anyway, so not much lost if it does crash on me.
Also, Tiberian Sun is my absolute FAVORITE of the C&C games. So I was hyped as fuck when Steam offered that up.
Of course, that made it, like, the 6th or 7th time I've bought the damned thing...... but it's worth it to be able to keep playing it. | |

I tried to play the other ones but my brain just said no, I couldn't identify with the gameplay or just have fun with it sadly.
I save a lot, like hundreds of games but I overwrite back to the first on a fresh round. The odd thing was sometimes manually deleting them all but one fixes it but sometimes it didn't. Like literally you'd hit save and nothing would happen when the bug occurs. It's unplayable if you have to ironman your way through a round without saving. I'm probably too much of a control freak. Used to do the same thing in Diablo, over save too frequently. Hell the half-life quick save button was hit so many times back in the day. | |
