A good wording I've read is "fluid". a 240hz display will appear more fluid than a 144hz display, considering that they both provide identical response time.
Fluid as in movements are easier to see, resolution with faster motion is no longer blurry or hard to see. But the game's fps has to be reaching the monitors hz number in order to benefit from this. If your game is delivering 60fps or 120fps on your 360hz monitor then obviously you're not seeing the very small delay in-between frames the screen is capable of.
A 4k monitor at 60hz with very fast motion on the ufo tests shows text or distinguishable graphics scrolling on a loop are too hard to make out despite the huge amount of pixels at 2160p.
A 1080p monitor at 240hz with very fast motion on the ufo tests shows text or distinguishable graphics scrolling on a loop are easy to make out due to the fluid fast motion & much more frequently updated pixels allowing the eye to comprehend the motion clearly.
There is a huge benefit to fast paced action gaming when using a high hz display, but not for web browsing or officework. | |

Kind of reminds me of how the typical human ear can't hear above the 20,000khz or 22,000 high frequency I think I read somewhere, however the harmonics of music and sounds that are well above those ranges can be heard by the human ear. It's a misconception to think that strobing lights is the same thing as the brain being able to see differences in frames, especially when you factor in relatively high response times of 1ms when future displays will be 100x faster response time then this very soon with oled.
When James Cameron was making Avatar 2 I think he said he was more excited about the HFR (high frame rate) then he was about 3D. The realism of the smooth action made the scenes easy to track unlike typical stuttering 24hz films. Sucks you can't buy Avatar2 with HFR though on Ultra Blu ray or streaming anywhere. Saw that twice in theaters, was incredible on IMAX. | |

I dont pay attention to my technical stats - monitor or otherwise. I play for 5 minutes until my kid pisses the bed then I log off. I deal with that then I log back on a half hour later and play another ten minutes. And you all assume I'm RQing :) | |

Not too much from 240 to 360 but there is a difference in hitting those flick shots; its definitely smoother/crisper and being IPS better colors/ect. I wanted a 27" finally after using 24" for ages. I tried Oled but they where too dim and was worried about burn in, I will end up with oleds when they get better screen protection for desktop use. I still use my 24 for a second monitor and that was a 240hz. (PG258Q) | |

Gamers obviously perform better with faster updates in-between frames. It's basically a perceivable increase in resolution when motion is involved not to mention a direct increase in time for the slow human brains reaction time.
Have there been any studies about games themselves performing better between 60fps and wickly high fps? This is something I'd expect most games to NOT have any changes such as physics or ability timings or even latency, but with TFC all these things do seem to be affected.
I'd be curious from Spoofer if he knows more in depth what happens to the half-life source engine when the fps increase from 60 to 120, or much higher at 240 or 600 or even 1200fps. Seems to speed up data packets faster or puts more demand on an internet connection upto around 240-360fps. Can't hh grenade or hh conc correctly when it gets too high I've heard? I know I can't move my character at 800-900fps, it gets locked in place until I lower the fps_max. Would be nice to know if there were benefits above 360fps in-game. | |
