I'm sure the Dems see it as a rebuilding year. They floated Newsom but maybe he doesn't want to throw his hat in the ring this year after so many demographics are increasingly warming to Trump. Why take the L now when his Republican opponent in 2028 will be someone less popular who won't have recently survived an assassination attempt?
I think the Dem leadership expects to lose this year. But as their power and resources are practically unlimited, they're having their allies in the media push a full-court press, just because.
That's not to say I don't think Harris can win. With all the rigging as well as the "slay, sassy queen!" cult-of-personality they're trying to build around her, there's always a chance. | |

It had to do with money. The amount fund-raised by Biden/Harris could easily be transferred to Harris/<VP>, but not any other candidate. IIRC that was a $90m+ valuation.
Additionally anybody else would have been subject to the same line of questioning (ie "why/how did the DNC install ___ without a legitimate primary vote?") - selecting anybody else would have polluted any sense of legitimacy.

It explains the how she was installed, yes.
The why I was looking for is much the same 'why' that was asked awhile back, as in why people support Trump. It was a question to Illusion's 'Definitely has MA's vote'.
Or even a how; how does Kamala go from one of the worst polling candidates ever to the party darling in just two months?
The why/how is the same here, I suppose. What am I missing that you're seeing and going 'wow, we really overlooked how stellar she is.'

I don't think there's any complex explanation here. A faction of people (democrats) united behind what they saw as their best option during a time of crisis.
What were the alternatives? An open convention? That would have either damaged Harris as the eventual nominee or resulted in a wholly unvetted candidate. It sounds like the other possibilities (Newsom, Whitmer) were not interested. I don't buy the whole money issue because that would have gone to the DNC and still been used to support the eventual candidate, just not as directly. To her credit, she got on the phone fast and nailed it down. I just don't see any viable alternatives. Everyone got on board because they had to. | |
