For all of you who don't know, I've been making a map the better part of going on 9-10 months now since around September of last year. It draws inspiration from the seedy era of 1970s Time's Square and the Staple Street sky bridge and a certain server rivalry for a 20-year-old half-life mod. I'm a little butthurt a certain relic in this niche gaming community of ours never got around to alpha testing the map but not as butt hurt as Riley Reid after an 8-way anal gangbang. It's currently on the map rotation on the 1999 server. You can nominate it by typing in "backalleybuttlovebeta1" without quotes in the group chat. I think it would be gauche to ask Drippy to upload it to his server. I'm not sure when Drippy's became strictly a 2fort server; I'm guessing for quite some time now. He has his brand and I respect that. Anyway, some pictures....

Eponymous marquee... savor the meta aspect of there being a back alley of a porno theater playing a porno called "Back Alley Butt Love." So far, the flag is in the back alley of the porno theater. I feel players may be short changed not having the flag in the porno theater itself. This may also affect game play. As it is now, the map is pretty big, including a sewer tunnel to the mix as well:

Sky bridge that has the nade bags in the center of the map. I should probably label that there are nade bags there. I wanted there to be a sort of king of the hill element of the game.

Capture point. The quake logo things you see on the left give quad damage to the other team. Basically blue can get quad damage by taking over or going in red's cap point and vice versa. There is a possibility of being able to capture the enemy's team capture point. Health packs and ammo are available to the opposing team in the enemy's cap point. My sort of innovation, if you will, on the game. I have to say tough, 3 quad damages might be a bit excessive:

Basically I wanted a map that offered high rewards for high risk offense players like quad damage in the enemy cap point. The cap point is in the penthouse above the porno theater next to the back alley with the flag. Thus, players can choose, go for the flag or go for taking over the enemy cap point and getting quad damage before going for the flag. Nade bags, being in the center of the map, have to be fought for, but may cause the team that controls the nade bags to get cocky and forget about the main objective of capturing the flag as the other team exploits the sewer and wide open air above the rooftop. The health packs in the apartment makes it serve as a rendezvous point and strategic area for putting teleporters. I opted, so far, for no such advantage in the sewer or rooftop since those two areas already have their own intrinsic advantages.
I want to thank pepperjack for the "Attack of the Prom Night Dumpster Babies!" idea and Redux, not sure if he also plays here or just on 1999, for helping me with embedding the custom textures (technical matter).

I logged onto 1999 yesterday while it was playing, but didn’t get enough time to really check it out. Is there anyway you can shorten the name to something simple like BABL? You’re basically have to come here to find the name, then type it in one TFC screen from another screen given the name is so long. | |

You're the third person now who has pointed out the long name. I am thinking for the next beta release and the eventual final cut I should consider this reoccurring criticism and shorten the map name. It will end up either being BABL or maybe something like 70sNYC. You guys are right; it's too long and it's going to piss people off if they make a typo while trying to nominate it and they forgot a letter or something.
For now, the map name on the server is "backalleybuttlovebeta1". I don't think it could be changed at this point for practical reasons. A good chunk of people already have it downloaded. It takes a good 3-6 minutes to download the map. | |
