I stopped playing tfc - which was the only video game I've played for many years - last summer. It was hard thinking about not playing it, and not playing here which has been my home server for awhile. Once I made the decision, it was easier than I thought, sadly, and I busied myself with my wife and I camping, kayaking and exploring our new life here in the Edmonton area. On Christmas morning I had a stroke, spent 8 days in the hospital and spent the last 7 weeks between home and different appointments. No work, no driving (they take your license) and lots of time to think about life in general. I'm not an athlete by any stretch, however for 53, my weight is just over 200 lbs, 6' 4" and cholesterol is perfect. It was a blood clot from my leg that somehow wandered all the way up and caused the blockage. After all these tests, there's no long term damages thankfully, I have some speech issues still, some short term memory issues but I started back to work, have my licence back, and life is a blessing. The ironic part is that I've been participating at the stroke clinic, and they strongly suggest that I 'get' into video games to help my brain/coordination. I've got my old original Nintendo hooked back up and am enjoying games like Blades of Steel, A Boy and his Blob..lol and the standard mario world game. I gave away my old desktop so sparking up tic would take me getting a new desktop, probably not going to do that for now. :)

Sorry to hear about your stroke Johnny, but glad to hear that you're getting back to your old self. Strokes are funny like that, can be completely unexpected and out of the blue, keep getting better! Maybe someday the itch to play TFC will be too much and you'll grace the forts with your presence once again!

Damn Johnny sorry to hear about this, but sounds like your doing better. You need to listen to your doctor and get your Canuck ass back in the game because I need some help on BLUE!

A Boy and His Blob is one of the most unreasonably difficult games I've ever played; especially if you don't use a guide.

Thanks, and I'm still amazed that STEAM keeps tfc going, it's got to be one of the longest fps online games?

I could ship you an old laptop that should be more than adequate for TFC, just say the word.

thanks, it's not a $ thing, it's one of those things where I'd sit down to play for a 'few minutes' and before you know it, an hour or more goes by! I decided some time ago if I hit 150k kills, then it would probably be time and when I hit it, it was still hard to quit. I replaced that time with other things now and it's something that I recall fondly but don't want to get back into. My mom and dad have my nice new monitor, a friend got the desktop and I plunk away on my macbook when I'm doing stuff like this. Even playing my nes gets old and I end up going out to our garage and putzing away on my car or playing guitar. I started a 5k run thingy using an app called couch to 5k, feels good, our run is in June.

Glad to hear you are ok, and hope you keep getting better. As for your gaming situation:

I'm going to recommend that you pick up another "classic" system. Either a SNES, N64, Atari 7800, and pick up a good amount of games. Video games are known to improve hand-eye coordination and reflexes. But, variety is the spice of life. Some of the Atari 7800 games are really, really good, and not super expensive. Hell, there are still some new games being made for it(see Atari-age.com). Also, 99% of games for the 2600 work with the 7800.

Even an iPad or other tablet for some games will help.

Yes, I know all too well the "lost time" problem with gaming. That's just something you'll have to accept... but call it a "side effect of your recovery medication". ;)

If you DO end up getting an Atari, let me know. I've got some spare carts here that you can have.

I'm still using the video card you sent me.
Thank you so much.

Get well soon, JC. I advise against getting back on TFC, and if you do.. Monitor your blood pressure. =)
