Why is the greatest 30 minutes on the internet right now not talked about here?

Eh, I felt like I was watching Danger 5. It was entertaining, however. But I love how people that didn't grow up in the 80s are now trying to make stuff like they did.

Arcades are in a sort of mini renaissance in America in some cities though, usually tied to bars and such.

Those are called "Barcades", and the "arcade" part is part of the attraction to the place. Mostly, the bar is what brings them in, though.
For those who don't know, I have a small collection of arcade games. Mostly everyone who collects them has to learn how to repair them at some point. Even though ours aren't subjected to the same abuse as those on location are, parts still wear out.
Since my wife and I moved, I could only fit 3 of them in the dining room:

Nice pics Iggy. When you say they wear out, you mean the joysticks and coin slots etc (or do chips fail too)? And do you do your own repairs? How do you get parts? Nice collection
And that Darth Vader collectible is valuable I assume?

With joysticks/controllers, it's usually the switches that go up. They are fairly easy to replace, though. I haven't actually replaced any, but I've taken mine apart and cleaned them.... same operation.
Most common problem is capacitors or fuses going bad. Some are easier to replace than others. For the most part, you can find replacements at a good electronics store. Chips generally don't go bad, unless they get hit with a power spike.
The cabinet itself is really only susceptible to water damage, as they are made of wood.
I keep spare light bulbs, fuses, etc on hand. So, if it's something simple, the downtime is pretty minimal. I did have to replace and rebuild parts in the throttle control on Lunar Lander once.... but considering I've had that cabinet for over 30 years, that's not bad.
I'm looking for a control panel for Asteroids. I already bought a PC board of the game, and a lot of LL cabs were converted back in the day. I just want to be able to switch between the two games, since I'm so limited on space now.
Oh, and no.... Darth Vader isn't valuable. I got it on clearance from WalMart. :)
