I haven't posted many weeks at this point because I'm not able to play TFC anytime in the near future. But I do lurk on the boards sometimes.

Anyway my company is running a steep discount on a large trampoline through Wayfair right now in case anyone is interested. Just thought I'd pass on the news as it's a great price.

The simplest explanation is my wife got annoyed at the amount of time I spent playing games. On a deeper level… she’s right. I have way too much stuff to do in general to put any significant time into any games. I have five kids, I am the CFO of my company which means I put in a lot of extra hours, and for religious reasons I don’t use the computer on Saturday or holidays. Although I enjoy gaming a lot, any time I spend on it is taking time away from other important things in my life. It’s possible I’ll come and go on occasion playing for short periods of time but the things that make me busy are likely to continue doing that for many years to come, so I don’t foresee any consistent ability to play games without sacrificing something else. Then again I’m excellent at making poor decisions so who knows lol.

    SHOMER SHABBOS!

I, like Jik MAZZ, don't roll on Shabbos either for religious reasons. I have a wife and a kid so I'm able to eek in a couple games after my daughter goes to bed. But 5 kids?! I'm guessing it gets exponentially more difficult with each kid? That's mad kicks that we have a CFO of his own company that plays here. I'd assume most corporate types would be out playing squash or golf but here's Jik MAZZ rocking engineer on a 20 year old game. What sort of company is it?

I should probably be playing less, I do admit. I have a master degree thesis to write. The thing is, it's 10 minutes to 9PM. I'm pretty much running on vapors at this point. I only play at night. I suppose I could be going to bed earlier so I can wake up earlier and work on the thesis but I also need some fucking down time.

TFC and the other half life mods are virtually the only games I play. I'm on I'd say between a half hour to 2 hours a night depending on the night and maybe around 3-6 nights a week depending on the week.

We sell trampolines, swings, greenhouses, and other backyard type stuff. http://www.machrus.com
I was hired in 2018 to be the “Controller” with one direct report bookkeeper. We’ve grown a lot since then and I negotiated the CFO title this year - I have 5 bookkeepers now.

BABL - I'm fairly certain after his last comment that he's not one of the owners of said company, but rather using the "collective" 'We'. Not saying it as a negative, I used to do the same thing in reference to companies I worked for.

It's a difference, but kinda subtle.

Obviously the "collective" 'We' is proper usage, as it indicates having pride and connection with the company you work for. Kinda like how I referred to the plant nursery as "my" company... where they TREATED me (almost) like family (to a point), but I wasn't ACTUALLY a member of the family that owned it.

FWIW, it's good to be proud of the company you work for if they treat you well. I think that treating your employees good is a massive gain for both the employee AND the company. A company that treats you like an "easily replaceable cog in the machine" in order to maximize profits, not only gets "shitty workers", but deserves shitty workers.

If you wonder why some people "don't give a fuck" about their job, question WHY. Give your workers a decent salary, benefits allowing them to lower their stress level over "basic stuff", and you'd be surprised at how loyal they can be. Sure, there are some "entitled" motherfuckers out there, but you can weed them out or teach them better over time.

It appears you are right. It was a rhetorical, "my work" as opposed to literally my work as in I own it. Either way, props to Jik MAZZ rocking the CFO title.

Well, like I said, there's nothing wrong with what he said. Anyone who likes/enjoys their job speaks like that. People who don't, usually say "the company I work for". I think it's a way to distance themselves from an environment they aren't exactly comfortable with.

Perfectly understandable, really. Looking back on my own life, there came a point where my view on working at the liquor store went from "My store" to "The store I work at", when talking about the place. It's a minor change in tone, but you have to know there's an underlying reason behind that change in wording.

With the nursery I worked at, I called it "my company" many, many times. Or, if speaking directly to a customer on the premises, "this company". But I always spoke with a level of pride for being part of it.

And yeah, good on him for having a company to work for that he IS that proud of.

(tangent coming)

I know a LOT of people who absolutely HATE where they work. They complain about the work, the hours, how they are treated, what they make... and I'm like, "Then LEAVE! Find something you WILL enjoy doing. Look outside of your normal avenues for something you may not even consider something you'd like. That's how I landed at the plant nursery. I never would have considered that job on my own, but I swear, it's the best job I ever had!"

But no... they can't. They are "Dante'" from Clerks. Too comfortable where they are. And I understand that. That's how *I* was at the liquor store. It took Rose giving me the confidence to seek out something else. Well, that, and being treated like shit the last year I was there. I felt I didn't deserve such treatment. I was as far from lazy as you could get. Come in on my days off because someone else called out, worked holidays, stayed late if I was needed, did all of the functions of an "Assistant Manager" without having either the title OR the pay scale... had my own private code for the security system and was given the keys to the store on multiple occasions... Yet I was disrespected at every turn? I should put up with that? I was trusted with tens of thousands of dollars in cash, but apparently still considered a piece of shit by the boss. How do you reconcile that?

Like I told him one time, "You'll go through hundreds, if not thousands of applicants before you find someone that will work as hard as I do for what you're paying. Meanwhile, I'll have another job, likely paying the same if not better, within a month. Still want to fire me?"

Rose had given me a set of Adamantium nuts, and I used them.

So far I have a very good track record for hiring quality people and I attribute that to looking for evidence that they took pride in their previous jobs. Our company has a lot of people who work hard and give recognition to each other for working hard, and hiring people who will do the same feeds that virtuous cycle. Typically if someone doesn’t like where they’re working it’s going to show in the quality of their work so they might as well move on if they can.
