Ey all,
Making this yet another generic looking hardware thread, but I'm interested in what everyone is working & playing with! :)
Curious what kinda hardware you are all playing with, from Desktop Rig to Audio Gear and of course the mouse & keyboard ~ monitor and more. There's so many options...
So on that note, check this out! :

If you can't get enough of gaining advantages in these AD AD AD AD AD (shooter) games! :p

I'm glad I finally switched to a wireless mouse, the Logitech G703 Hero Lightspeed Gaming Mouse & HyperX Alloy Origins 60% keyboard setup for gaming needs.
I got this nice and small keyboard - specifically for the reason that it doesn't have a numkey pad for more freedom of movement with mouse:

Nice!
I got the i9 9900 too, still running the 2070 Super, liking it still. Not feeling the upgrade-itis just yet. :p
I may upgrade it all for the nvidia 5000 series / beyond.
Headphones, I'm a medium budget audio dude - I got the HiFiMAN Edition XS. It's super comfortable, for those long sessions. <(^__^<) Using that for music too on my Burson Audio Conductor 3 Reference (headphone amplifier).

I'm running:
ASUS PRIME B550M-A AC MoBo AMD Ryzen 7 3700X (8 processors, 16 cores) 32GB of DDR4 G-Skill RAM NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3070, 8GB GDDR6 Focusrite Scarlett 2i2 interface Pair of Samson Resolv 5E active bookshelf monitors Shure MV7X Dual Sceptre 32 inch QHD IPS Monitor HDR400 2560x1440 144Hz 1ms (E325B-QPN168) Logitech MX Masters 3 mouse Logitech MX Keys keyboard
It's 3 years old and cost me about 2K to put together when I got it (in the height of the supply chain/COVID era). Handles any and everything I throw at it. From the new COD games to CS2, Destiny 2 - all settings on as high as they go at a steady minimum 90fps. Dial it down to preconfigured 2K "High" settings and closer to 120-140fps, almost never exceeding 60c (140f)

Super @ mmarino!
Cool setup/build!
https://store.steampowered.com/hwsurvey/Steam-Hardware-Softw... I was looking a bit at the Steam Hardware Survey of June 2024:
NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3060 (most popular)
Primary Display Resolution 1920 x 1080 ~ 57% total
-- are quite notable to me, so many Full HD (1080p) gamers still ^__^ Makes sense I suppose.

Identify the weakness in your setups or which upgrade in your computer setup would benefit the greatest improvement for yourself. We're all different and have a different overlooked component.
For instance some of you might have an insanely powerful cpu, more then enough ram, but that means nothing if you're using an underpowered graphics card that's always at 100% usage capping your fps.
In 2023 I was using my older backup computer for many of my TFC gaming sessions as the 300-400fps I was getting on it I thought was "good enough". Little did I realize that with a more powerful cpu/gpu that my older system actually had micro stutters & tiny latency fluctuations that you don't even realize how much they contribute for aiming or smooth gameplay until you play on something better. Still had these on an 8core AMD mini pc (laptop components) I borrowed from my dad but were less obvious. High DPC driver latencies along with an older computers motherboard resources struggling is something that the constantly high fps meter never showed was a problem so I never looked to improve it.

The most important thing everyone needs to do is have consistent frames per second. If your monitor is 120hz then have a computer that can perform MORE than 120fps at all times. You can lock your fps down to 120fps or multiples of this to reduce screen tearing with v-sync off such as 240fps or 360fps. On the 2fort bridge when 16 yellow pipes are blowing up and a dozen grenades and both teams are visible outside, if your fps is dipping below your locked fps value your aim is going to be fucked up & you'll get a headache. If your pc can do 600fps on an empty server it can very likely do 240-360fps on a full server under the worst scenarios. You want 100% of your time to be at an identical fps, not 95% or 90% or 60% of the time.
Monitor Resolution and HZ You can spend $500 on a gaming pc or $4000 or any amount. The real question is which games are you going to play and at how many fps can your system perform at that resolution.
If I were going to play Blizzards card game Hearthstone or World of Warcraft, I would prefer 4k or 8k at 60hz. If somebody out there was playing a cardgame at 1080p at 480hz or playing another slow moving game at 480fps then it would be a waste. I'd prefer to play a quake paced game such as TFC (well tfc is slower but you get what I'm saying) at as fast as possible where the resolution suffers to keep costs manageable. 1080p @ 480hz is more appropriate for a super fast shooter game.
Gamers go to the store and see a 120hz vs 360hz monitors side by side and instantly say they can't tell the difference. This is because either the camera is standing still with 5% of the screen having motion with characters running around in the distance, or if you can actually play it then it might not be configured correctly. It takes time for your eyes & thus skills/reaction to adjust, but when you get used to something higher it's hard to go back.
The best examples are the ufo moving fps tests online where the ability to clearly see the stars and spaceship when the graphics are moving faster and faster and faster become harder unless you're witnessing those events on a faster hz newer display. Higher hz combined with stable high fps results in "motion resolution" or the ability to see something very sharply while in faster motion. Just like 1080p vs 4k vs 8k has diminishing returns, so do 60hz vs 120hz vs 240hz. Paying an arm & a leg for a dream 4k setup is lame if during the high motion fighting scenes you're seeing under 720p levels of detail after you factor in pixel response times & the time between screen refreshes (hz).

Something that took me a couple years to figure out with a newer game (Sea of Thieves) was that I was using a ton of CPU and very little GPU. I was told that this is how the game usually runs, so I forgot about it for a bit.
But still, something seemed off. I was using virtually no GPU, according to the graphs. So I dug around in Windows graphics settings and explicitly set the app to "high performance."
And I also enabled hardware-accelerated GPU scheduling, despite forums recommending I keep it disabled. That did it though. I started seeing actual GPU usage again.

Intel i7 4790k at 4ghz (going to try OC to 4.4ghz again soon) Noctura air CPU cooler (they're fucking awesome!) 16GB of DDR3 2133mhz (running at 1600mhz instead for ultra tight timings 9-9-9-24) Nvidia Geforce 1080, 8GB Video memory 6x Intel SSD in raid-0 65" 4k TV tweaked at 1080p@120hz to 9ms actual response time (my biggest weakness, need a new screen + new eyeglasses) Intel i225V 2.5Gbps Ethernet Card ($19 amazon, bought last week best one yet!) Logitech MX mouse (used this for 20+ years) Asus TUF Gaming M4 Air mouse + 2 new mousepads (picked up primeday 2024 in july, still learning the feel!) Bose Quietcomfort 15 headphones: Some airlines use these in their first class sections as the noise cancelling and over the ear comfort make wearing them comfortable even after wearing them all day. The directional sound with properly spaced stereo is helpful too.
As I only play TFC on this system, I've adjusted everything to compliment my goal of having the most responsive & fluid like gaming experience possible. I could OC my ram to 2300mhz with terribly loose timings, set up the command rate for 2T but why? The slightly snappier responses and feel of very very tight timings along with 1T are simply better. I enjoy having AA/Aniso off along with the bells/whistles turned off. My biggest weakness is my current display at 120hz & less then ideal response time.
Or perhaps my biggest long-term weakness is the fact Windows 10 support is ending October 2025 & my system can't handle that, so I need to begin building a more modern gaming pc to be ready for the upcoming Windows 12. Apparently even with an unsupported CPU and a lack of TPM 2.0 chip there are new ways to install Windows 11, although it might run slower and perhaps might not get security updates in some cases. This is something I plan to experiment with later this summer still with my current setup.

Granted I'm not playing games like Eldin Ring or God of War: Ragnarok, it handles everything I throw at it.

My next system is going to also have an Intel CPU. I am NOT going to deal with the infinity fabric bullshit on AMD CPU's where the dies are literally glued together. One cpu core communicating data over another cpu core but having to cross that infinity fabric getting differences in latency will be too annoying for a real-time application like gaming. I don't need microstutters or no-stutters but a slight input delay averaged out compared to a single die with all the cores on it and no glue. If I was doing photoshop or rendering movies then I wouldn't care either way.
Going to be hard to find a super reliable motherboard & ram with excellent reviews. Shopping for a new wifi router for my dad was such a nightmare on amazon, a sea of terrible reviews.
I always go overboard on a computer power supply. One of the nice benefits too is that its fan will stop spinning if you're using considerably less power then its maximum thus making the entire system more quiet and you're ready to go incase you buy a better GPU in the future.
