Quantum Computers are this massive blessing and curse that are growing rapidly in progress, similar to the good vs evil of nuclear energy way back when and making that into a weapon. This is just my opinion, but based on everything I've read I feel my conclusions for massive excitement and extreme worry are valid.
Different governments around the world are in a race to build the highest CUBIT quantum computer as are the biggest tech companies such as IBM and GOOGLE. CUBIT number basically means more processing or potential. Doing something extremely simple such as analyzing a molecule for science doesn't take many, but breaking the encryption of bitcoin would take more for instance.
People won't be getting quantum computers in their home, it won't make your videogame fps go higher. Rather they have the potential to predict much more accurate weather upto 30 days out for instance, as the very nature of the algorithms used in weather forecasting is very similar to quantum in nature where today's classical computers very much struggle to simulate the most basic forms. Cures to cancers and better pain meds and cures to all sorts of diseases will come. However when the biggest encryptions in the world are suddenly broken, countries like China that have been scooping up countless hard drives worth of unreadable encrypted secrets from various governments around the world will be able to see and read everything. Formulas, codes, blueprints, spies, assets, everything. The potential for a World War 3 is almost certain. The biggest strike you can do against another nation without using a nuke would be launching a hack to takeout a powergrid for months to a year killing over 90% of the population. You can mask a hack's origin to keep the starting point a secret and not take credit too. | |

8/1/2024 China breakthrough: room-temperature time crystal success!
Up until now every quantum computer needs to be at insanely low temperatures to keep the superpositioning accurate and then collapse everything to give useful results. This forces them to be enormous in size & hard to scale and very work with. The US & UK must accelerate their quantum computing efforts now that China has made such a recent breakthrough with room temperature materials! The possibilities are endless, new types of unthinkable metals or substances will be made after you run simulations through a more powerful quantum computer. It's an election year, so important stuff like this will likely never be mentioned until it's weaponized or some country or company exploits its potential in a few years.

And if Quantum computers ever conclude that Global Warming is untrue, it will be 'patched' to show two different conclusions.
1 conclusion that only the developers and higherups get to see which is the truth.
And a 2nd conclusion which is false that the rest of us will see.
(And if you don't think they are keeping biases in A.I. on purpose, then enjoy being a summer child that swallows the blue pill daily.)

ANALOGY STORY:
Imagine having 10 siblings growing up and you were the youngest. A few were nice but most were mean, with a narcissistic selfish nature at their very core.
Over the years the kids use some type of app that encrypts their messages to each other by rearranging all the letters and numbers, so you're able to see how long the sentences were and how often they typed to one another. But due to the encryption you're unable to read or understand anything.
Late into your teenage years there is a data breach at the encryption app messaging headquarters and all messages become unencrypted. Suddenly you can read how your sisters were messaging your brothers blaming you for crimes they committed. Setting you up for failure and exchanging secrets that would have changed your life forever. You gain a much clearer image of the true dynamic of your childhood and what was really going on behind the scenes.
EXPLINATION:
Instead of siblings in the story above imagine they are countries, and instead of a data breach it's simply a Quantum Computer's eventual ability to decrypt everything in use today. Enormous amounts of encrypted data flows across the internet for other countries to grab if they choose. We feel safe as it would take our best non-quantum computer millions of years worth of work to break even one message. Russia seems to dissect what it deems as potentially important and China seems to scoop up as much of anything & archive for the future according to the ex-CIA leader that was interviewed on Joe Rogan last year.
The scary thing is weaknesses in our military, powergrid, infrastructure and society are discussed in encrypted top secret communications that no other country can decrypt as a quantum computer powerful enough doesn't yet exist. When you check your bank balance online, it's encrypted using a much lower level of encryption.
The first country to develop many hundreds or maybe thousands of CUBITS in a Quantum Computer is going to have such enormous potential to change the planet. Imagine if China comes out with this first. They could create some type of super rubber or metal that the world would greatly desire & only China would produce giving them unthinkable profits. Cures to cancers & illness, but you must pay China or suffer/die without these.
CONCLUSION:
In the example above if China learns the name/face of every spy from every government, every nations weakness, the codes to buildings and even nuclear devices all around the world then the pecking order of which country is the top dog sort of depends on who accelerates their Quantum Computer development programs and what they do with the upcoming advancements. China publicly announced their Quantum Computer & AI ambitions to be the world leaders in those fields by or before 2045, that briefing was back before 2020 if I remember correctly.
The world really needs to shift to Quantum Resistant Encryptions & begin to use those immediately. It's quite embarrassing how the world tends to react afterwards instead of making preparations, or maybe that is mostly an American mindset. | |

That's all political stuff. Is it going to matter if the democrats vs republicans are in charge AFTER either China turns America into a poor third world country OR a world war breaks out? Worrying about politics after a quantum computer event is like someone worrying that their phone would be damaged after an EMP takes out the nations power, when starvation should be their primary concern instead.
We can be angry that politicians are spreading lies to help their own party (but mostly their own wallets by accepting secret bribes), but none of that can compare to the power of a quantum computer. The stock market manipulation potential with an AI model pared with a Quantum Computer will extract wealth from either a specific country or the entire world.
The age of trust is about to end with Deepfake technology that will soon surpass hollywood's best work. When this lands as an app on a smartphone perhaps years from now or perhaps even later in 2024, the world will sort of go to shit as well. Videos leaked about celebrities or politicians committing crimes or performing porn will be widespread as anybody will be able to create anything. Filming a crime or a security camera being used as evidence will become a thing of the past. Ultimately this will be the end of TV news, as nobody will want to watch a news anchor read non-stop and they certainly won't trust any videos they play after most they show will be proven to be deepfakes the first few years. | |
