I remember in the 90s the olympics seemed like a very big deal. It was constantly talked about on the news and people spoke about it in school. This year absolutely nobody at work or in my social circles has even mentioned it once, and even CNN only has it as as minor sidebar items. It seems like quirky athletes are the primary news items this year as opposed to the actual competition. What say you? | |

I used to like watching the olympics because it was this format:
-Introduction of athlete
-Video of athlete
-Crowd applauds
-Judges score
-Introduction of athlete
-Video of athlete
-Crowd applauds
-Judges score
Now, there's too much fat on it. Too much bs. Too much personal agency and "what we stand for!"
Athletes: get up there, do your thing, get the fuck down, and take some applause.
Media networks/promoters/sponsors: time and a place for "platform speeches" - the Olympics is not it. | |

Ask AI to render women without clothes performing at the olympics.... but that'll get boring after a while.
Have AI replace the athletes with dogs and cats performing at the olympics instead.
Finally show your grandma what you've done, just be sure to not mix up the two clips. | |

All the old people pointing at the women athletes on TV & grumbling "bet that's really a man". | |

Only sports I like are ice hockey because I used to play and ufc because I really wish I had the ability to beat people up in real life. Nearly had a road rage incident against a vegan in a prius today and I wanted to flying knee kick her in the head so bad. And her kid. | |

Can never replicate the drama of U.S. amateurs vs. the Eastern bloc professionals.
I'm not advocating a return of the cold war; just pointing out that the modern day version is far less compelling. Besides, if we could replicate that sort of rivalry, half of today's U.S. population would root against the U.S. athletes. | |

I remember as a kid being excited for the Olympics. The opening ceremony when China hosted was pretty cool with those folk drums. Now I could care less. I listened to an interesting podcast where they more or less argued how multiculturalism may have killed the Olympics. Here it is you'll have the French soccer team and it's pretty much all black. So what does it mean if the French soccer team of all black African players wins. It's sort of a non sequitur.
Lest we forget that the two finalists for this year's women's boxing are two biological men. Oh, and of course the atrocious opening ceremony. I give it two more Olympics where the opening ceremony will be full blown circuit sodomy sponsored by taco bell. | |
