| Apparently the DSM classifies ADHD as being on the autism spectrum.
| | I believe they're both considered neurological conditions, but not necessarily on the spectrum of being the same thing.
"Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) and Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) are the most common neurodevelopmental disorders"

If you're reading this, congrats! You're on the spectrum.

I don't have adhd but imagine tfc would suck for them wouldn't it? Like unable to focus or hold a thought, attention & impatience always an issue.
I think the result of "ADHD like" behavior (not true adhd) in so much of our society is a complete lack of self discipline with phones/tablets & a pattern of bad behavior left unchecked. We're already at a point where some young people can't remember 3 or 4 numbers for more than 2minutes, they use their phone to remind them of everything or let the internet think for them.
I've setup my home theater room as a learning cave where I'm constantly reading about stuff & not hooked on dopamine addictive social media bullshit or twitter/politic nonsense. I don't own a smartphone & likely never will. Can't fit 50 tabs open on a phone anyways. Phones feel like the opposite, they're tiny & make reading hard and therefore punish learning and favor quick laugh videos to make the dum dums smile.

People have a hard time realizing the word "spectrum". Definition: "used to classify something, or suggest that it can be classified, in terms of its position on a scale between two extreme or opposite points."
If you're bipolar, schitzo, adhd or have autism it's not a binary condition of you have something or don't in that if you do then you have the exact same experience as everyone else with it - that's not how a spectrum works. There are lots of people that have a little of one of those and a lot of the other too which are called overlaps. No two people have the exact same experience, even with autism there's low functioning & high functioning with a massive range inbetween resulting in completely different auditory/visual experiences.
The benefit to yourself is if you're willing to self-diagnose and be completely honest with yourself, you can learn more about your own strengths and weaknesses as a result.
I learned earlier this year that one of my high school friends commit suicide & had undiagnosed schizophrenia resulting in delusions resulting in his death. Another helpful thing about learning about all 4 is to identify the symptoms & how to approach or appreciate people that have these as sometimes they can be difficult to live or work with.
There's no cures for any of these, there's medications that from what I gathered with only a minute or two of light reading was they dull your senses or make your thinking cloudy so you can function better around others & not be a danger to others in the workplace perhaps.

Never heard of ADHD as a kid. Seems to have come along afterwards about the same time that hip hop took off. Maybe there's a connection.

They used to say the kid had "ants in his pants" or he was "spaced out" a lot or just unmotivated. The idea that it was something other than a moral failing was already around in the 1980s or so, but it took about 20 years for it to become widespread.
