If you pay for cable/satellite/DSL/whatever internet and it makes sense for your home situation, consider dropping it for a few months and using your phone's mobile hotspot to save a few bucks.
YMMV, but it works surprisingly well for me. TFC latency was somewhere in the 30s IIRC. I have a soft 50GB hotspot cap and a soft 100GB all-data cap per month. After that, your bandwidth is completely deprioritized.
And there's an app for Android called PDANet+ that conceals hotspot data as regular phone data, which helps with the soft 50GB cap.
I do burn through my monthly data pretty fast, but the silver lining to that is it keeps me from watching so much porn*.
(*Netflix and Hulu. But let's be real: If I said Netflix and Hulu, you would've corrected me with "porn.")

Interesting. I have Spectrum and absolutely loathe them as a company with their terrible service and jacked up prices. Unfortunately I got rid of the hotspot plan with my phone when I upgraded my plan. I've considered something like this, however... I definitely don't pay for streaming services and cut my cable for that, at least. There's some easy instructions on YouTube for that

Have an idea how much bandwidth you consume per month first. Netflix at 4k consumes like 30Mbps. 225MB per minute or 27GB for a 2hour film, OR perhaps that's the maximum data and through compression it is less then this.
Regardless of what internet source you pick, the lowest jitter & lowest ping will always win. I'd assume fiber>cable would be best on both, but every location might be different. Can try playing on your phone's plan to test.
Use a testing website to test for bandwidth speeds & separately jitter. Jitter is how high the ping goes and how low the ping goes. A stable internet connection has a ping that almost never moves. If your mobile internet is overloaded & oversold to too many customers, expect inconsistent speeds resulting in jitter.

You also get access to the subsidiaries as well like Hulu owns crunchyroll which streams anime so you can watch crunchyroll content via Hulu. I’m sure max also owns other platforms thus leading to more value.

The price was comparable to Xfinity and service was reliable, but speeds were terrible.
My T-Mobile (formerly Sprint) bill is $73/month and I get good speeds (for a phone), unlimited data and various other perks like discounts on streaming services.

It's a cost-cutting measure and as such, I made my peace with having bandwidth throttled after 100GB/month. At its worst QoS, I can still watch streaming video at the data-saver rate.

[...] If your mobile internet is overloaded & oversold to too many customers, expect inconsistent speeds resulting in jitter. | | Yeah, I did some testing before giving up Comcast. Some things worked better than others. When I used an old Asus router as a wifi-client/Ethernet bridge, I'd have random 20-second disconnects in game. But direct tethering was blazing fast.

I pay for Netflix, they pay for Hulu, I pay for O365, they pay for Disney+ and so on. Truth be told, I'd rather have none of the streaming services for the time being. T-Mobile does give me free access to Hulu with ads though, so maybe I'll use that.
So yeah, for years I've subscribed to O365, which gave me a plethora of PC installs of Microsoft Office to share with friends and family. (To anyone here: if we have some level of friendship/rapport on this site and you're broke and need access to O365 apps, I may be able to help you out.) I find it handy to have, but it means much more to the family member I'm sharing it with, and they've helped me out in the past, so I feel obligated to keep the subscription going.

I live in the woods in a low area by a river...if it weren't for Spectrum and my wifi, my cell phone would be useless here.

I have used that line a couple times in my career. My old partner and I used to use a lot of SNL and Chappelle stuff to lighten the mood back in the day...you know, before everyone became insufferable weak pussies.

I actually expected a few "this doesn't apply to me" replies, haha.
Reminds me of a Brian Regan sketch about "the news team that cares."
| They don't care on the other channel? "A major highway is closed down tonight but, hey, I don't drive home that way." | |
