Glad you enjoyed it. It was a lot of fun; sad seeing Episode 3 die a death, but I get Gabe on Half life not just being about a game - it now needs to come with some kind of generational progression in gaming, as well as an amazing, engaging story.
At least the frost gun went on to give us Portal and Prey.
I remember playing the HL2 physics leak. Fond memories, but I'm obviously sorry they had such a shit time during the hack.

One of these, named Dapple, is a 220-foot vessel refitted at Damen Yachting into a full-fledged hospital, serving as a safeguard for the cruising billionaire during the COVID-19 pandemic. Didn't someone mod a remake of the actual half-life 1 game based on the half-life 2 engine since actual half-life 2 isn't so much based on half-life 1? I think someone linked it but I forgot to favorite it. Appreciate it if anyone remembers the name if they can send me a link. So crazy to think half-life 2 is now 20 years old. Even crazier I think is the, what, 4-5 year gap between half-life 1 and half-life 2; to see how the graphics progressed in such a short amount of time is truly remarkable.
Still, I never got into half-life 2 or its mods. I think it's a mix of being cheap and just loving the gameplay of half-life 1 and its mods. It truly was ahead of its time.

Somebody actually started making HL2 on the goldsource engine. Made it as far as Ravenholm, IIRC.

A complete start from scratch remake of HL1 using Source's maximum potential (the final official Valve sanctioned game using the engine). There's also a documentary on its 16 years long development https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=G_TcAxAKCAI&t=7s . - Also, the final chapter of Black Mesa: Blue Shift (HECU Collective) was released this morning. - And, Operation Black Mesa (Opposing Force remake) (Tripmine Studios) is still being worked on.

It truly was ahead of its time. | | Maybe you're thinking of Black Mesa? It is indeed a "remake" of Half Life using the Source engine. Took well over a decade to finally reach its full release, but I tell you what.... the game is REALLY fun to play.
Here is a "trailer/review" for the game:
https://youtu.be/KaJO14_TAbA?si=U_SO8m2286ejgF-U And here is a documentary on how the game was made:
https://youtu.be/G_TcAxAKCAI?si=oNfhRW4sw5mCH0di Because of my "work" as a Beta Tester for "Fortress Forever", I did manage to get my hands on a VERY early "Alpha" version of Black Mesa to give some input. The game we ended up getting was WAY different than that "Alpha" stage version. In all honesty, it was basically the first two chapters, with VERY different content than the finalized game. But that's not a bad thing. At the time, the developers really didn't know what direction they were going to go in. Straight "remake" via "shot for shot", or "re-imagine" the game with the spirit of it remaining.
It was kinda like that when I got into the Beta for Fortress Forever. The devs were still learning the differences between the Goldsource engine, and the Source engine, and coming up with ideas on how they would adapt the game to those differences.
Speaking of FF.... I'm going to include a couple of videos on THAT game. One that I myself made (the 2fort announcement), and the "Dustbowl" trailer. Feel free to look up more if you wish, on any of these games.

Haha, I loved seeing the voice actor say "Why do we have to wear these ridiculous ties!"
One of my favorite Halflife quotes that I used to quote all the time at work.
