What have I been up to?
Well I got like 18+ months booze free (Thank you Gaba, Sam1...., 2 of the most amazing fucking humans EVER)
With my new found sobriety after 40+ years I've started making music....these are a few songs I just sent to mixing/mastering

Very happy to hear that you're sober these days, man. Happy that people in this community have helped you with that too. Gaba hates me but I know he's got good in him.
Anyways, this stuff is good even though not my cup of tea these days. I've got questions on this though, namely composition or recording. The bitrate of the mp3 is wonky which is usually an indicator for AI being used. There's a lot of programs these days like Suno for this stuff and it's becoming harder and harder to tell.
I don't want to poop in the punch bowl but having been active in music for most of my life I'm kinda anti-ai music. If this was used, I'm sorry, hit me up if you ever want to collab.
Edit: I'll probably delete this post because I love you kyree but feel like an ass insinuating the use of AI, but I also feel it necessary because AI art/music is a sore spot for me. I hope I'm wrong here | |

Yeah if you need AI to make music then you are no better than a kid who uses ChatGPT for an essay. But then again plenty of artists use autotune which is probably a step down from AI but still not completely their work. I think most of the Disney child starts who became singers are all autotuned | |

I find it ironic that you hear the off bitrates then recommend the same AI I used to add a musical place holder to MY handwritten lyrics...I have very little musical training...cello from 3rd grade to 6th...still can't read sheet music...I can limp through a rythmn with some tab...I'm not an engineer..never touch anything bigger than a tascam 4 track...but I grew up around bands...I know what I like and I know what I wanna hear...this shit for me is therapeutic...I deal with addiction, death, sexual abuse, fucked up marriage, family disappointments....shit my mom was dead for 5 months and no one told me till they needed my signature to get to the estate...physical pain...and trauma just like everyone else...I decided to channel my energy into something positive...did you listen to any of the lyrics..or did you go in to debunk my talent?

The birate is not the only giveaway that AI was used, I just said it as an example. It's nothing personal man, I know the struggle. You do you.
Never claimed to be a "real musician" - what even is that. I don't do sheet music either. That's the beauty of music, you don't need to be an expert. I think everyone has a musician inside of them. But I've been writing music for most of my life and AI music being claimed as human made is just tough pill to swallow, I hope u understand. Nothing to do w/money and I can give you a bunch of free vst/plugins or anything else you need, let me know. I spent 7 years writing my last album when AI could have done it in 7 seconds, so I have strong feelings in this topic. It's all love man, I can delete my post if you want. | |

No I am not saying that at all Sir..if Ai was a paid collaborator maybe 33.3%....I'm not going to divulge, but it's easier to ask to list synonyms and entendres instead of using Google or going to a thesaurus | |

Autotune is closer to an advanced spellchecker or thesaurus, however unlike with language minor imperfections can give character to a singer's voice. Autotuning is kind of cheating giving a singer perfect pitch, but the sad state is when everyone does that then everyone must do it to compete.
It's CRAZY what type of technology is running alongside a singer when they sing live in a concert. I'm still convinced the tv show "THE VOICE" is running a handful of autotuning filters or similar technologies. There's so many youtube clips of global superstars caught lip-syncing during an outdoor event or in their own concert! Where they accidently forgot and stopped moving their lips & moved their microphone away from their head and yet their flawless voice continued singing over the speakers.

Using AI to create music, art, stories and movies is an insecurity rooted within the person as they think they lack the creativity to compete with others OR they've convinced themself they need this edge to stand out or everyone is using AI. The truth is by using AI they rob themselves of the unique originality that would have make them stand out, as AI projects tend to get repetitive & recycled. Notice how some Netflix movies feel almost identical, or how some new pop or country songs sound nearly identical to one another? AI is getting overused in our culture.
If I wrote lyrics, musical composition or a story then I want to say I wrote it. Not that AI tools assisted in 10-70% of the creation or inspiration.
The feel of joy or pain should be felt by the listener, and replacing this with successful patterns or melodies removes the essence of such a reflection.
AI will have their place in countless fields including efficiency/jobs/driving, but robbing the human experience of 100% man made artistic work will be the ugly side in our culture. | |

You know, THIS might be the main crux of the issue here.
How MUCH of it is AI generated? Is it just, "Here's what I want to say, how can I best put it into words", versus "Write me a song that most people will like."
I haven't listened to it at this point, so without hearing it, I don't have a real context. However, just reading the discussion, I think that my question is what it may truly boil down to.
Asking an AI for HELP to write a song is big different from asking AI to simply write it FOR you. Aside from just the wording, did you ask it for help in writing the music as well?
Illusion gifted me some of his original music for use on my YouTube channel, and I absolutely love it for that purpose. The dude has talent there. I can't say I'd be less inclined to use it had AI helped him create it, but I would be surprised by that.
I'm more of a comedic writer, and I was a very good vocalist back in high school. I was never much able to write music or lyrics. But if you wrote the words, I could sing them (back then... 36 years of smoking has kinda damaged my voice a bit... but I can at least still carry a tune, to a point).
I won't lie, I'm a bit of a purist, so that whole "autotune" and "AI writing" is a bit off putting to me. I would prefer someone writes from their experiences and from the heart, than something a computer came up with on request. | |
