It's rare to see a G4 or G5 solar storm (from the sun) on the 4day forecast. It's even more rare to see two days back to back at high levels.

Reminder that the concern is to be alert incase the level's are higher and reach G5 levels. The worry is someyear a G5 event will be strong enough to disrupt or destroy the US power grid.

Specific info about June 1st & June 2nd quote:
""Should G4 levels occur, aurora may become visible over much of the northern half of the country & maybe as far south as Alabama to northern California.""

https://www.swpc.noaa.gov/news/upgrade-g4-watch-1-2-june

As always, the 4 day spaceweather forecast is available here at the top of the page:

I'm up in WA state & didn't see anything tonight. Checked through a phone/tablet camera screen too but saw nothing. Most articles suggested Sunday night but a few had mentioned tonight.

I think tomorrow night there's a chance to see northern lights possibly depending on weather.

That one G5 last year was so intense the lights were visible as far south as Florida, and up here in WA state I could see the lights without an electronic camera screen. Think that happened around April or May of 2024.

That's nothing compared to the 1850's carrington event which had northern lights so intense American's could read a newspaper at 1am without the assistance of candlelight. That's end of the world upper end G5 strength though, where the lights were seen south of Mexico, haha.

We always hear about these solar flaresstorms. Idk. I guess if we get we get hit not much we can do about it. We can try SPF 100000000000. Ha. And you dont play anymore Snipes?

Every 11 years the north/south poles flip on the sun. So like clockwork you can predict the most likely year (give or take a year) of a deadly storm since the stress on the star gets crazy those years. It can eject particles in the solar flares larger than earth, but often times they won't head towards us. Another thing to consider too is which side of the planet it hits too. It could fuck over China plus satellites over China only instead.

2025 highest activity on the sun
2030 lowest activity on the sun

2036 highest activity on the sun
2041 lowest activity on the sun

PERSONAL PROTECTION G5: Unplug electrical appliances if any G5 is predicted. Likely have 12-36 hours advanced notice if a killer G5 was arriving. Millions of volts flowing across long powerlines will surge faster than your surge protectors can handle destroying stuff plugged in at the time, even if turned off! I plan to flip off my entire electricity circuit for a day if the news predicted a global concern like a Carrington level storm to not take chances.

Visit ATM & pull out lots of cash. Put it back in if the storm safely passes. Fill car up on gas. Again, only if the news suggests a killer solar storm. Buy extra food beforehand too.

SOCIETY IF KILLER G5: Expect the power grid to collapse as building sized transformers made in China are destroyed across America. Months to years of no electricity will cripple America's grocery supply as gas pumps won't work. If you have no gas & no food on day 1, you're kind of screwed.

And you dont play anymore Snipes?
I might start playing again later this month. Stopped around Thanksgiving last year due to balancing life stuff. Got an unhealthy addiction to Diablo II Resurrected with a mod community earlier this year, haha. I actually built a complicated batch file launcher for their mod.

MAINSTREAM NEWS SUGGESTION G5: If a Carrington level G5 were to approach earth, the news would recommend people to remain calm. Advice to remain at home would be likely. They'd likely suggest GPS & phone service will be disrupted.

They can *NOT* suggest people buy extra food/water as this would cripple the entire supply chain resulting in food shortages that could harm human life IF the storm turned out to be weak. So no news network or president administration would want to be responsible for such damages.

There's a massive lack of physical paper cash compared to dollars inside bank accounts that people typically use on their card. So if plastic card machines no longer work without electricity, "cash only" becomes the new normal. Google AI suggests most ATM machines hold upto between $10k-20k total in cash, with smaller machines only $2k-$10k.

So news recommendations again conflict with the appropriate reaction to such an event due to a lack of infrastructure in America.

I think it was the remaster I played a few months back what a great game. I played the original years ago. I still need to get 4.

Diablo II was crazy good. I've been playing the Reimagined mod of Diablo II Resurrected, which is the remastered version of Diablo II including the LOD expansion.

They add quality of life stuff like 2x bigger inventory & stash, lets you stack gems & stack runes. Reduced the rune droprate where they're still semi-rare but still obtainable by playing solo offline. This mod like all mods are offline only, which is ultimately best. Playing with /players8 lets you get 400% more loot & experience, and the mobs get like 250% more health or so too.

Was going to multibox online but Blizzard left quite a few bugs unfixed in the remastered version which was shocking. Mod offline with /players8 makes it challenging & rewarding more then online.

Crazy how bad D3 & especially D4 is, eww.

Oh, FFS..... It's not VOLTAGE that is dangerous, it's AMPERAGE that will destroy shit. You know that as much as I do. So, your initial claim is outright false and anyone who knows dick about electrical shit knows that.

Remember, I own arcade games, and have to keep them on different house circuits because of the amperage they demand to work. Most home circuits can't handle more than 20 amps per circuit. As it stands, 3 arcade games draw damned near that limit, which is why I have 3 on one breaker and the other on another. We also have nothing else plugged into the 3 game circuit, unless only ONE game is turned on at a time.

This is 100% why a "slow build" stockpile is what I'd recommend. Which is something I do on the regular. I stockpile dry goods and non-perishable foods when we can (which isn't often, to be honest). As it stands, I've got enough dry-goods and non-perishable foods to last close to a year. Also, I know how to grow my own foods if it comes down to it. I've also got some seed packets stored in my freezer, "just in case".

Remember, I'm a Gen-Xer who grew up with movies like The Day After and Red Dawn as influences. While those movies didn't "scare" me, like they did to many young people at the time.... they DID prompt me to learn survival skills. And I don't mean just wandering through wooded areas with a big knife.... I mean legitimate skills that would end up serving me well over the years.

Granted, my body is broken down all these years later, so I'd rather have a quick nuclear death than have to live in the aftermath... but I still have the knowledge if I did survive.

Voltage x Amps = Watts.

1v at 15a = 15watts
150v at 0.1a = 15watts

During a doomsday G5 event, any long cables will accumulate energy on the line itself. That's the reason telegraph lines caught on fire & operators got a bad electrical shock when they touched their equipment and these were relatively shorter lines back in the 1850's compared to today's powerlines.

From what I've read, millions of volts (no idea how much Amperage & thus the watts) will surge across powerlines blowing up transformers & grid substations because all that energy has to go somewhere!

The point is outlets in the US are 120v with electronics allowing slightly above this only without damage & cannot handle a surge of thousands to millions of volts! Parts of the country might have a way to disperse some of the extra energy that builds up on powerlines but the US powergrid is so old & filled with shortcuts to keep things running on outdated equipment in most areas. Physical damage to the powergrid infrastructure would be the result where the large items are made only in China currently. Powergrid would like be offline for months to years.

Home surge protectors won't be fast enough during such a G5 event, so shutting off all power to your home at the box OR unplugging appliances during such an event would be the only way to reasonably protect your electronics.

Remember, I own arcade games, and have to keep them on different house circuits because of the amperage they demand to work. Most home circuits can't handle more than 20 amps per circuit. I think due to safety reasons it's closer to 15-16 amps is the limit on circuits in many US homes as distance and the age of old wiring are a concern for fires. That's around 1800-1920 watts before the breaker trips.

Because in Europe they use 240 volts in an appliance, it would only need half the amps to deliver the same total power or watts.

I would have to double check, but I think the 20amp Breaker that the 3 upright cabinets are on is pulling close to the max. We do have an air conditioner on that same circuit, but when THAT is on, I only run 1 cabinet along with it. Just to be safe.
