I'm curious how the "Ashli Babbitt got what she deserved!" folks can rectify their cognitive dissonance in denying that in the case of the ICE officer shooting good it was not self defense. I at least respect your consistency in saying that they both FAFO'd. I personally think that Babbitt was not putting anyone's life in danger. This angry lesbian though, arguably was. The bodycam footage seems to suggest that the guy was hit with her car https://x.com/nicksortor/status/2009683575298211979. Maybe not hard, but hit nonetheless. And as cockburn mentioned, the same guy was dragged I think 30 feet by some Venezuelan gangbanger. So, as he got hit, he probably had this flashback to being dragged 30 feet and thought to himself, "fuck this."
Can MN even prosecute him? I think this was self-defense but I also think this is horrible optics. This will be a major distraction from what is otherwise the category 5 shitshow going on in MN right now with the Somali daycare fraud scandal all on Tim Walz's watch. It would have been better optics to see this lady speed off, almost running over the guy, with ICE trying to track her down and local law enforcement refusing to help. It would have given Trump the ability to issue the insurrection act on a silver platter. | |
The thing with Ashli Babbitt, did that officer have any way of knowing whether she was armed or not? After all, there were others that were armed. So for all he knew, his life was in danger. It is easy for us after the fact to say well he shouldnt have fired she was unarmed. But sometimes you dont have the option to wait to make a decision, you have only a split second to decide. Sorry, but I am going to err on the side of keeping me alive. And on the ice agent, whatever happened in the past, does not matter, it does not excuse current actions. Wiould it be ok then if the gaurd who shot ashli says well he had past trauma and thats caused him to do it? would that make it ok? | |
Were there armed people at January 6th? Other than the gman spooks of course.
I would argue that the big difference between the two was that Ashli Babbitt was behind a door with a glass window and that good was behind the wheel of a 2+ ton vehicle. Maybe PTA could chime in here, but I don't think the "well, she may have been armed!" argument can cut it. Then again, I think what things boil down to is where such an altercation takes place and who is in charge. There was a pro Trump protestor in Denver being harassed by protestors. He busted out the pepper spray and then got shot. The shooter claimed self-defense and the Democrat run city didn't even push charges. | |
