Reckoner Super Regular Crack-Powered Capper

Inspired by Barry Greenstein's website, where he also does a player analysis. http://www.barrygreenstein.com/player-analysis/ For example: http://www.barrygreenstein.com/player-analysis/patrik-antoni... Since a certain question was asked by “Backalleybuttlove” in another thread, I decided to make a seperate one for it. They asked: “Looks like you're the #4 cap guy on the server. What do you attribute your offensive skills to? Are you a master at the hand held concussion jump?“
Reckoner Scale of 1 – 10.
Aggressiveness, combat skills: 8 Game mechanics: 6 “Tilt” control, self-control: 4 Against less experienced players: 9 Against strong, experienced players: 7 Best Offensive Class: Medic Best Defensive Class: Engineer
First of all, I don't have a greater understanding of the game mechanics, meaning like the perfect air-strafe angles for the mouse when bunny hopping. Let's say a player like “brah”, would probably score a 9 or even a 10 here. Same goes for hand held concussion jumping – There's so much room for me to improve even after so many years. What I lack in those mechanical skills, I make up for with how I engage the enemy players in combat and the reads I perform on enemy players. It took me so many years to even start to think about bunny hopping on this server. The cap is at 140% so if I wanted to improve, then was it the time for that.
To answer “Backalleybuttlove” their question: I think I am experienced, but just on this map 2fort. Other maps I would mostly rely on combat skills I suppose and how I read players and their movements, actions on the map. Not a master at concussion jumping, hehe. :D
As far as “Tilt” control, self-control goes, though I RQ little less nowadays, is kinda lacking. :p Especially in matches where me and the other O players on my team don't even get to see the flagroom for 10 minutes straight for example. That could put me on tilt and I start to play less to my own understandings of the game. That when I sometimes feel like I have to “Deathmatch” versus a soldier or demoman when they keep covering the exact same pixel on the map, like top elevator, or mid/upper spiral. It's kinda bad.
Then realizing I'm alone on offensive (at times) and then I'm not calculating the timings correctly anymore. I sort of switch to auto-pilot and I don't really enjoy that particular match then, not wanting to finish a match to end in a 0-0 tie game.
I think a match on this map is one continuous calculation. The timer goes to 0 and you can leave the spawn, but before that so many calculations have been done already. Just by pressing the “Tab” button before that and most experienced players know what class you're playing anyway (and your play style), just based on name/reputation. I'm not saying that the match basically plays itself, new players can always join mid-game. Just have to adjust to it. Also continue to “read” players is what I enjoy about this game the most. Not that I try to get in their head too much, but I really like playing the player a lot.
Small Example: Let's say you see an enemy soldier leaving their base on 2fort – One of your Team's scout or medic concussion jumps from bridge to reach battlements. You see the soldier tracking the scout/medic's movement quite accurately, with their “weapon model” visibly moving to where your teammate's position is right now – after a rocket that may or may not hit, they instantly switch to shotgun to get shots in.
You should know: They fall under the strong, experienced category.
Am I really that surprised that when I go on offensive as a medic, that they'll be waiting on the spot at the 2-nd floor, near main respawn, trying to cover both battlements, grate and elevator? No. :p Based on how they bunny hop and act around the map, I already know how they will play the entire match. That's when I have the most fun ^__^. Because I understand what I need to do to counter their play style. Therefore, vs strong experienced players “7”, sometimes higher.
It's not a 1 vs 1 game of course, so calculations get more complex with more players/classes on each team.

What do you mean by tilt?
What impressed me in that game was pretty much no one on our team could even get close to the flag, the opposing team had good bridge defense and I could barely make it into the opposing team's base except for you and let alone the fact be able to capture the flag. I'm not sure you remember that one, just curious what it was you were doing to bypass the defenses.
I'd love to improve my offense skills. I'm pretty good at engineer but want to improve as medic and scout. It seems like team work coordination is crucial especially in the games where there's more than 8 people per team. Trying to sneak in running as a scout ain't going to work when there's three engineers in the basement.
I'm surprised I didn't get into this game when I was in high school. I was a big counter-strike fanboy, even made a CS map.
Having played this game, especially 2fort for quite some time now I've come to appreciate the skill it takes to capture the flag when facing a skillful opposing team along with the frustration when you can't get it out of that damn box room!

Yo @Backalleybuttlove ^__^
I suppose Tilt is a thing in like RTS games too, such as Starcraft 1 & 2. There it's called raging. :o More so in Poker - the card game. There it's called "steaming" - meaning that let's say an individual player is losing a lot of money during a poker session. They try to get back the money as quickly as possible - investing more money and mostly losing a lot more, because they'll play poorly. A definition I found online: "Steaming - The condition of being stuck and on tilt." Often, when a player is losing, their disposition becomes poor and they lose their discipline. Some players will get downright mean and angry. >__<
Hmm, :o Not sure if I remember that game where others on my team couldn't get in the enemy base.. I usually record demos for 90% of the matches, I'll take a look later. :) Hopefully I can upload a nice video clip or something, showing some basic ideas for the match you mentioned.

I tilted into a rage quit during a match vs reckoner last night. 4 engies on our team. No communication. No SGs on flag when it as sitting in spiral. Brought it up multiple times and nobody budged. Instant waste of time and effort. Rage quit.

Since you were a CS fanboy, you're used to "slow" and "methodical" gameplay, right? Those traits can work wonders as a Spy class.
Don't get me wrong, D2F is usually pretty chaotic... but it's usually "no blood" and "random spam" that are the Spy's biggest weaknesses in this game.
You learn a few proper tactics, and you can do some serious damage in the enemy base. Even if their defense is decent.

There should be a category for game sense as well. Differs from game mechanics.

That was one of the aggrevating things about counter-strike, waiting sometimes two minutes till the next round if you died.
I'm a couple time zones away, I'm talking the Middle East a couple time zones away, so it's sort of luck of the draw sometimes if anyone's on the server to play. Seems like you need at least 5v5 for a decent game. Also, Friday nights your time is the Sabbath my time so that means no vidya.
I bet with FF on it's a totally different game. I can see how the spy class would be at a greater advantage than without. What I liked about CS was the gun recoil and dying with just a couple hits gave it a sort of "realism." You can't just be trigger happy especially at long distances. I reckon the spy's LSD spray grenades are like a sort of smoke grenade in CS. Lately I've been throwing them when I'm followed as a sort of deterrent.
