Yes occasionally ill pick certain friends to play with to have more of a chance to play the objective, trying to enjoy the game and play with friends and not be on a team down by 5 and have no o and d. Least i dont RQ like gg does. Ill take a beating, although i have raged before we all do. | | Yeah I RQ often. Whats the point in doing something im not enjoying? I work a lot and dont have much available time doing things not work and sleep so I have to pick my time and allocate it wisely.
Do I think I RQ any more or less than you? Nope so this is rich coming from you.
I have no issue with you. I enjoy playing with you and many of the instances you are trying to leave and come back are times where it benefits me, like to the team I am on. But what I said stands true. I join first most of the time and hold tab and watch what people are doing and to see if I should switch to offense since starting defense is so ingrained in me. Doing this every round you notice some things and see patterns.

I only rage quit at the end of the round so no one notices.

No. I rage join games... never rage quit.

Is auto'ing frowned upon or something? I just auto anyway because the balancer will just put me where it wants to.

^ Right: Grapefruit Balancer.
IMO (/dead horse):
The current problem is, so often, there are at least two groups of players on D2F playing entirely different games. I have no doubt the balancing algorithm would work great for a 1v1 fighting game, or maybe even console Call of Duty where I assume everyone's playing to win (since it's usually solo deathmatch IIRC? idk). But so many people on D2F are simply not playing the same game.
So I wonder if the current algorithm could be made to run in two separate instances. Balance out the capable players playing the objective and willing to communicate and employ teamwork, then balance out the rest.
It'd eliminate so many problems, IMO. The current balancer is pretty dumb on lowman games when one or two good players are on one side, against a ton of noise on the other. It's not at all rare that currently more good players will end up on one side compared to the other, unevening the teams in terms of objective players. And in general it'd keep numbers far more even so that the teams appear less visibly lopsided numerically.
And then you'd have roughly even amounts of TFCers and fluff, and I feel there'd be a lot less frustration about the balancer all around. Previous objections were that you can't guarantee the grapefruits will stay all match, but so what, then the balancer either balances the next one to join or singles out a GF to switch, same as before (but better). Same with the fluff.
Maintaining a list would be simple with the current state of TFC, since the community is so small. Worst case scenario is a new member joins the community and takes a while to be recognized. The question would be who determines the list to begin with. Or maybe you ignore the list idea and tweak the algorithm so that you make a cutoff in the WL ratio score so that you try to only balance out people above that certain threshold against each other, and same below it, so you're never trying to determine how many clueless new players measure up to a single competent heavyweight (which is both an impossible calculation and also throws the numbers all off).
But I agree with Backalley (and tons of others who have voiced similar sentiments since the balancer was created), that while the current algorithm is better than it was before, it's still far from ideal due to everyone playing towards different objectives on the server, and how often we see GFs determining games, often on lopsided GF teams.

I don't believe any human intervention into the balancer would improve it. People are bad at classifying each other, whether they realize it or not. Everyone has a value, even the ones that are negative.

The balancer can never work 100% if people come and go during a game. You’d need an admin physically sitting in spec allocating players to different teams when needed.

KILMOV counts as two grapefruits, can we get the balancer updated to reflect that?
How about a grapefruit balancer, brah joins blue team, upset joins red team, gaba joins blue team, reckoner joins red team, gg#4 joins blue team, nookie joins red team.
1:1 grapefruit ratio instead of sometimes 3:1(or 2:1, 4:1 etc.) ratio.
