I'm ashamed to admit this as an OG Half life and Half life mod player for the past 20 years that I'm pretty sure I don't know how to bhop. I think, emphasis think, that I get the initial boost by running forward, then simultaneously jumping while strafing right or left while moving the mouse right or left (same direction as the strafe). My problem is I can't maintain the initial momentum I generate.
I know some people bind their mouse wheel in either of the directions to jump to spam the jump command so as to help with the timing. I'm also aware of bhop scripts that further help with the timing by further spamming the jump command. The way I understand the script is that pushing space bar or moving the mouse wheel once is equal to pushing it 3 or 4 times for the game.
If anyone here has any advice or any good links showing someone how to bhop I'd really appreciate it. I'm really into playing scout and that's the class to bhop.

I learned to do it loooooooooooong after the glory days of TFC that some old farts here get a chubb for thinking its 1999. It helps to do it first in your own game (Create Server) before trying it online. I just jump forward once, then while I am moving forward with that momentum, I hit either A or D while "swinging" my mouse in that direction smoothly (too fast or too much of an angle can mess it up) right before the footstep sounds play before hitting the ground. From what I remember (I took a break for a few years so I am a bit rusty), if you are able to jump consistently without hearing the thud of your feet hitting the ground then your doing it right. Then again repeat for the opposite direction and keep repeating. If you want to practice, you can just go in one direction in a circle and you will see how much speed you pick up by timing the jumps. I used to use a script that had a few jump commands but when I started playing TFC again recently I did fine with just +jump to mouse wheel up and down.

I use mwheel scroll up for jump. Never used scripts, bhop.dll etc. that's like using training wheels for your bike, but do you bring your training wheels to the Olympics? :-P
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zsYmDTFqaJo&t=10s - this tutorial is pretty solid. On the left you can see which keys he presses.
One of the best exercises is doing a figure eight because it forces you to alternate between strafing left and strafing right.

Can't bhop. Tried to learn multiple times and just can't get it working.
I've just accepted I can't do it and do what I can when playing on EVIL.

Once I understood why I was turning and strafing in the same direction, it all clicked.

The definitive "corner turning" moment. There literally is a switch that flips where it all kind of just makes sense and you're like OOOOOOhhhhhh
I'll be happy to spend some one on one time with you if you'd like

I'll be happy to spend some one on one time with you if you'd like | | Can you add friends by steam ID? I'll see if I can add you. There's the whole I'm on the other side of the world, that is a couple time zones away and you have a baby to take care of, but if we're both on at the same time and you're tired of pwning people as soldier and want to check out my feeble attempts at bhoping on one of the ghost town servers then I'll take you up on it. I think observing what someone physically does with the mouse and keyboard would be more effective but maybe you could decipher what it is I'm doing wrong in game. Also, did you in another thread say you can practice bhoping in the water in 2fort?
@matt, I've seen that turtorial and tried to do what they did and it doesn't work for me :( Is there a command to get your speed displayed in the bottom center of the HUD? Maybe that will help me out.
