I mostly get a small yellow circle in place of other peoples' spray. Any idea what is causing this? Sometimes other's show up, but usually at least one is this yellow circle. Mine always looks fine (to me). Any help would be appreciated. Thanks. | |

First: This is for people who may come here and don't know how to make them. Download 'Wally' then follow the instructions here: http://hlds101.com/bonus/spray.htm
Now, nesemann, some servers don't allow custom decals and it defaults to a little yellow circle when a custom one is trying to be used. The yellow circle is also an indication that the tempdecal could have been created wrong (either dimensions are wrong or color-palette is too high)
Also, always make the tempdecal a read-only file

Edit: I remember seeing once a group of people that all had a different section of a picture as their sprays and they coordinated and covered a wall with one large image, section by section. It was Pretty cool.

For other people's sprays, I might try deleting custom.hpk.
If the problem recurs, you could set hpk_maxsize to something small like 0.001 so it always regenerates on server or map change. | |

This goes for any and all ".cfg" files, as well. In fact, anything that's not an actual game file should be Read-Only. Sprites, sounds, configs, etc.
There have been updates in the past that have completely wrecked my install because it "defaulted" a lot of files. So, I also suggest keeping a backup of important stuff outside of the Steam directory(even if it's on the same drive). Also, the more backups you have(located on various drives), the less likely you are to have to go re-edit/download things should something happen. | |

Good advice, but everything is still wonky. Deleted custom.hpk and tempdecal.wad, but still little yellow circles. Moved hpk_maxsize up to 0.001 from 0, no effect.
The damndest thing is for a game, it kicked back on fine, and then sunk back into oblivion of little circles. | |
