It's near where I grew up. Really sad story. I couldn't believe it when I heard it. Then the part about the good Samaritan getting killed by a cop... just when you think this whole thing couldn't get any sadder.
My wife and I like to go up to Olde Town Arvada when were in town visiting from Israel. It has that old Main Street feel to it. Ironically enough, we didn't go to Denver last year specifically because we didn't think it was safe. It was so surreal that two years ago we walked up to the Capitol with no worries, just another partly cloudy summer day in Denver, and saw the very civil war monument that got tore down a year later. The governor was so pissed off about that he also took down the civil war era cannons too.
Anyway, back to Olde Town Arvada. This is an anomaly, I think this is the 3rd Arvada police officer to be killed in the line of duty. Like I said, main street USA vibe and all the more so with what they did with Covid. They closed off a bunch of the streets to traffic to allow for more outdoor dining/social distancing. Closing off traffic gives it more of a village feel to it. I think they're extending the closure for another five years. It was nice walking from shop to shop not having to worry about cars. I guess now you have to worry about getting shot in the head.
The army navy surplus store there where the good Samaritan came out of is amazing. They have every cut and kind of jeans imaginable. I got a good pair of thick Dickies (hahaha) with a winter lining for the winter. There's also a great German strudel bakery there.

What about it? I know you love to throw things out there for others to comment on, but let's hear what Iggy has to say this time.

This is one of the reasons why the police absolutely needs to refocus towards de-escalation. Those duty pistols need to be treated as weapons of last resort, because a single bullet has the capability to remove permanently everything of value - never mind several bullets.
Never mind that the good guy was at the wrong place at the wrong time doing a good thing. Thanks to this friendly fire incident, the cops have blood on their hands. Will they reform? If I am you, I'm not holding my breath.

From what's been reported so far, it didn't sound like he even attempted to de-escalate the situation. Granted, we don't know exactly how it went down, but considering it was a "law abiding citizen" who had put a stop to the cop killer, I'd say chances are pretty good he would have complied with instructions to drop the weapon(s) he was carrying, and allow the officer to take charge of the situation, had he been instructed to do so.
Also, I think the department needs to take a closer look at their training methods, if this cop's first instinct was to discharge his firearm.

Granted, we don't know exactly how it went down,
cop get call, shot fired....walks into a situation where guy has gun....maybe he turns toward the cop and....
We don't know what happened. It sucks but ... maybe we wait to see...
ps. while I have friends in DEA, homicide and other LEOs my personal experience with law enforcement is just shy of 70% good... so I'm not trying to make excuses, but this is a crap situation that won't get better if we dont wait

Personally, I'd like to think the cop DID try the usual "Drop the weapon! Show me your hands!" thing, instead of just walking around the corner and start shooting. But I have a feeling that something went very wrong with his decision making.

Have you really thought about this, or are you just shooting from the hip here?
Fuck it...I'm going the Kyree on this one. It's not worth arguing over, cos we're not going to find middle ground here.
It's a shitty fucking situation, and I feel for the civilian and his family.

Apparently the good Samaritan grabbed the shooter's AR15. Another cop saw him with it and assumed he was the guy who shot the cop.

| | Like the cop.... shooting from the hip.
It's not a matter of arguing... I don't think it's unreasonable, given the facts presented, that training should be looked at.
And yes, he DID pick up the shooter's weapon. But I'd bet dollars to donuts his reason was to make sure the shooter couldn't use it again. I'd also bet he wasn't holding it in a threatening manner.
I really hope that second cop had a body camera, and that it recorded what happened, AND that they release the video, so we can properly judge his actions.

There are no real facts presented at this point. You're making assumptions on this or that with no good information, just your feelings about it.
For all you or I know, the cop did exactly as trained given the circumstances he was presented with.

a.k.a. "shoot first, ask questions later"
Real fuckin' convenient when it's pretty much a given that pig ain't losing his job, let alone freedom, over his "shooting the messenger".

Yes, the opinion of someone who doesn't know shit about shit. Go ahead and pop off, turd. Maybe you can throw some more italics and bold in your comments to they seem more edgy.

Guess who voted against funding the police?Conservatives.
But sure, go off and dismiss some leftist comment as "you know nothing, crack head"
