While TFC *IS* my "go to" game, I do still play some newer games. Black Mesa is one of the more recent games I've gotten, along with Star Wars Squadrons, and Star Wars Battlefront 2(the newer version).

I even bought a "flight stick" to play the newer flight simulators that support it(including Squadrons)... though I won't invest in the VR hardware that some games utilize. That shit is just too damned expensive. The Flight Stick was less than $100.... and works with a fair amount of games. Whereas VR only works with a few games(Half Life: Alyx is one that requires it, and while it will work with Squadrons, it's not necessary)... I can't justify the expense for just a couple of games.

I also have a USB version of the N-64 controller for a few games, as well as a USB version of an Atari 2600 controller that I can use with some games that support it. All three of those controllers combined(the Flight Stick, N-64, and Atari 2600) cost WAY less than a VR set up, and work for a lot more games.

Sheesh dude I was such a sweaty destiny player. After Last Wish, it just all fell apart so violently for me. Stopped playing and haven’t gone back since

Taken King raid and Whisper of the Worm mission were two pinnacle moments for the franchise

I was in game as it was being discovered. Probably ran it 15 times that night helping carry people through.

Black Spindle was a dope mission that inspired WotM back in D1, but WotM was just NEXT level man.

I still participate in the community and follow alot of the big names (Gladd, Esoterick, the whole Redeem clan) and all the new stuff...apparently Zero Hour was really an incredible mission too.

WotM though...it was a whole atmosphere. A whole mood. Nothing will top that as far as missions, in my opinion.

    Good thread/topic idea! :D

Haven't touched TFC since 1 May this year – Mostly related to the fact that I don't really experience an emotional reward for playing a match/round. Even with like making a winning buzzer cap in a difficult match, I just don't feel it afterwards – it feels kinda empty >__< .

It was fun for so many years, but I'm kinda thinking more about what I want to actually experience in the present day and how I'm experiencing activities for relaxation/distraction/entertainment in general. Like... "Is this really what I want, is this even remotely enjoyable?". Also thinking more about the consequences of my gaming behaviour in general.

We're not even near to the post-covid era just yet here in the Netherlands sadly... Saying this because TFC was my go to game during the lockdown time. :p

As I'm 31 years old now, I guess some sort of distancing from FPS games was always going to happen – arms heavy, palms sweaty, mouse cord made of spaghetti. >__< Reaction speed/timing is a thing too like the article that was linked is describing, but mostly the "inner motivation and drive" in-game is so different each day for me – If I simply don't care what happens on my screen – then it's easy to lose the proper motivation.

I have been watching more e-sports, Starcraft 2 again – The level of competition is insanely high. I'm deeply impressed by the new generation of players. :o Poker is great too (watching big tournaments) on the side.

Played a few other games on like the Nintendo Switch, some older indie games such as Limbo, Inside – it was an experience and am happy that I actually finished playing a game for the first time in a long time... Will get around to finishing both Xenoblade Chronicles games at a slower pace.

For PC I'm currently playing (Steam sale purchased): No Man's Sky and Oxygen Not Included – It's just what I need... :P I like that I can just pick-up and play or just leave the game for weeks if I want to and do other stuff.

I went on a sweatyyyyyyyyyyyy run of D2 on XBOX with my boys. Like, real elitest attitude.

you know, the one I have in TFC exists in other FPS games.

Same here, and yet I'm drawn to the "Bridge" part of chapter "Highway 17" in Half Life 2.

I have a "love-hate" relationship with that part of the game.

I play tf2 when D2F is empty or I can't connect...it's kinda gratifying when I can rocket jump up and kill all 4 snipers with a single click of my mouse...I also find being a pyro kinda gratifying....when I'm not doing that I play COD:mobile Battle Royale

Ooh @Iggy :D well first thing that comes to mind is this:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Bk0RGWQPkEs Lol..

But yeah I can understand the love-hate thing with certain sections in Half Life 2 >__<.

I think I only felt the magic of Half Life 2 just in the first playthrough sadly. :/

Moose: You must love Prototype then

Iggy: That's one of my favorite parts of the game. There actually is an acrophobic sensation playing that part. I recall there was a similar part in one of the Syphon Filter games, too

Not sure I get your meaning here, Audie Murphy was a bit of a badass.

Wikipediawrote:
He was one of the most decorated American combat soldiers of World War II. He received every military combat award for valor available from the U.S. Army, as well as French and Belgian awards for heroism.

when you are in your prime and your reflexes, eyesight, etc... are all top of the charts...you are like AM...a bad ass that can take on all comers

but as you get older and your reflex slows down, your eye sight is more mole than eagle you tend to be more of a physical less finesse player and may tend to bull rush or become impatient and careless ... hence LJ (not you of course, AS, with Canadian water and leafy greens I am sure you are still ... impressive)
