I was also concerned about a Fed rate rise, or even leaving it unchanged, would cause a drop in value. Bond values fall as rates rise. Trump's antics were also pushing up Treasury yields, to the detriment of bond holders.

|  | It was, a bit, but I've been there before. The stocks I chose were established Canadian banks and companies, with a chunk thrown at a TSK Index ETF. I'm currently underwater on one of the positions but while I wait for it to recover the shares have a dividend yield of just over 9%, a good quarterly chunk of change. Also, dividends (well, Eligible Dividends) are, under most circumstances, the most tax-efficient source of investment income in Canada. | |
